View Full Version : Bathroom Cleaning Hint!

I just found a couple of products that will get your bathroom sparkling clean.
Product #1: "Shower sparkle" I paid $3.80 for 900mls
Product #2: "Ajax Floor cleaner baking soda: I paid $3.81 for 750mls
My method:
Spary the 1st product on leave for 2 mins then splash the other on leave for 10 mins (yes i know your not suposed to mix chemicals but there was no reaction so dont panic) Then with a cloth and scourer sponge {(i used Vileda scourer \sponge (reccomended for scrubbing teflon without harming it) I paid $1.99 for one.}Scrub all the surfaces and then rinse off.
Your bathroom will be so clean, seriously this method got out marks and crap that have been here since when mum leased the unit over 12 mths ago, and it made the old mould fade to just about nothing, i reckon a few more cleans and it will be all gone.
Then i sprayed the shower sparkle on and left like reccomended ("the next shower will do the work")
When i got to the toilet i added white king strong to the bowl.
WARNING: The smell is strong so be careful.
From Now ill just use the shower sparkle a couple of times a week as reccomended.
Very good Manda thanks for the great tips!
As you said you shouldnt mix them but you have lived to tell us about it so thats ok:hehe:

That's why I have finally come to realize that I get just as good a job from vinegar and bi-carb and plain old elbow grease when I need to bring in the big guns.
I find if you never let it get too bad (she says with two grown men in the house) that then there is nothing that vinegar and bi-carb will not shift.
Added bonus....NO DEADLY FUMES AROUND CHILDREN AND PETS!

i only ever buy the name brands i really don't think the other stuff works as well i tried the cheap bleach once & that was a waste of time so i just pay dearer
Patric i just don't have it in me to use too much elbow grease these days lol

I just use the bathroom cleaner from Cinderella....it smells like Coconut and does a better job than harsher chemicals. I don't know how it would go on really stubborn stains or mould but I clean my bathrooms once a week and they are well ventilated so they don't get a chance to get mouldy anyway.

Di..you honestly don't think that I provide the elbow grease do you..that would be a joke...LMAO

I always use "elbow grease" but still have had stains that havnt shifted....until today.
Like i said these stains have been here since mum moved in and i clean the bathroom/loo weekly and always rinse everything after showers/baths.

Great you got them clean Manda but aren't you worried about the fumes and effects from the chemicals with the littlies...the thought horrifies me to be honest.

That sounds nice Kay:Ddo you just get at the supermarkets?

Patic- I don't let them anywhere near it while I'm doing it and i close the door so less fumes escape. ..and dont let them back in for 20 mins (give or take) until the coast is clear!
Plus like i said i don't use harsh chemicals normally (the cheap ones are very mild)
I weighed up the pros and cons and thought well id rather use strong chemicals once (shower sparkle on its own its all that "fumy") and have all the yuck stuff gone, then have it harbor and build up.
:hehe: I'm glad i did it, i just found a letter from the r/estate they are coming in a couple of weeks for an inspection. they are very thorough in them too!

Yup the bathroom one is pink and smells like coconut and there is a multipurpose spray that smells like mint :D You can get them both at Coles or BiLo....for some reason Woolies doesn't seem to stock them but you can order online too

i've also used ajax for the bathroom..for the tub actually. it usually gets all the shampoo clumps out! :hehe: but this was back at my mom's. we have the sparkle shower or whatever you call it here too. but i don't see much of a difference using it really. i ABSOLUTELY love using scrubbing bubbles for the tub and toilet. it's more foamy and isn't really strong. i'll leave it on for a few minutes and it wipes off pretty good. and of course, my windex for redoing the toilet, sink, mirror, etc..it makes things look extra shiny. :D

I use an Enjo cloth with just water and it makes my bathroom nice and clean, but then I have never let the mould build up.
I use vinegar in the toilet and bi-carb and lemon is also a good cleaner.
My sister gave me this environmental cleaning book for Christmas, it has some great tips in there that do work, I was surprised as I love a good cleaning product like the next women but the environment is becoming more of an issue for me.

I say you girls all have normal water coming out of your taps? We have river water coming out of ours and no matter how hard you scrub, the shower, bath, basin and toilets all go bright orange with a hint of rust! The only thing I can use is hydrochloric acid to clean the bathroom. I have to wear goggles, gloves and a mask. Everything comes off immediately the acid touches it but its all back in a week even if you use something after each shower. Ive got to do the shower and basin today as they went orange over the last 3 days and Im psyching myself up right now. Once I get some more tanks I can switch over and not have the problem anymore.

I try and use bicarb and vinegar as well, but if they don't work, the best product I have ever used it work's on everything and you don't use a lot and it work's quickly is White King bathroom gel, the bathroom is spotless you just wipe it over leave a few minute's and rinse off, good cleaning floor's and toilet as well.

oh Manda thank you :D
That will come in handy for me! We've been living here for just on 3 years now and there's stains in the bathroom that have been there since before we moved in. I'd love to get rid of them so it looks alot nicer! I'll give it a go when i go shopping tomorrow :D

For tough stains, I use peroxide. Yea that little brown bottle hidden in the med cabinet. Just cover stain and let sit.It will remove the stain.
Anything of protin make up( grass stain, eg, etc) , use dish soap.I have always washed the baby thing in a dulituded version of dish soap with soda mixed in. I have never had a stain on any of the clothes. It even will remove car oil. (It is made to cut cooking oil)
I mix a cheap (under a dollar) bottle of dish soap into a 5 gallon jug, add a 3/1.00 box of soda and then fill with water.
This lasts us (family of 3) 4 months. That is with washing clothes daily.
For tough stains or scum in the bathroom, I use salt. That is what they use at the aquariums to clean the huge tanks. It will cut the scum fast and leave things sparkling.

They are good tips Manda:DAs for chemicals etc -yes it's bad but so is mould growing in your bathroom so u have to get rid of it:yes:We moved here and within a week the ensuite was full of mould-obviously the previous tenants had used something to get it off but hadn't treated it and it just came up, we bleached it and bought exhaust fans.
Patricia

I agree that mould is bad.
But there are much better ways than blasting it with potent chemicals to treat and prevent it recurring..such as using a strong salt solution or oil of cloves.
Imagine where we will be if we all keep pouring chemicals willy nilly down our drains.

Thanks for all of the handy hints in this blog! I only use a micro-fibre cloth and have a stubborn stain that won't go so I might hit with bi-carb and vinegar.

Its nothing to do with not caring Patric and I take offence to your insinuation that it does.I actually appreciate alternative options to chemicals as long as they kill the spores(i.e mould) and not just take the heads of it:yes:Otherwise I am fighting a losing battle.

Kim the exhaust fans that you've got will go a long way once you've gotten rid of the mould. We have them in both our bathrooms and make sure that we keep the window open a bit too while they are running because it increases their power somehow - you can actually hear them rev up when the window is opened. :)
Alexa might have some tips for environmentally safe mould removal in her cleaning book she got for Chrissy.

Kimba I was not insinuating anything at all..so take my comments any way you like.
Unfortunately it is not just MY opinion that if people continue to use chemicals at the rate they are currently being used that it will have a dire effect on the environment it is FACT. If you choose to ignore that then that is of course your choice.
As I stated about a strong salt solution along with a solution of oil of cloves has been scientifically proven to be the best mould killer and detterent. ( I will try and find the article for you that was published last year...)

Kezabelle says - thanks Patricia, will be interesting to try and see how it actually goes. Still, the article only says that it inhibits growth rather than killing the spores, so I'm not holding my breath. I use Enjo to clean my house but have recently given up and bought Exit Mould (which nearly killed me as it's been 3 or 4 years! :)) and my bathrooms are sparkly once more. Enjo itself does not claim to kill the spores, just remove the heads, and it can be a pretty fierce battle if you let it go even for a day or two in our humidity.
Patricia
07-01-2008, 04:34 PM
You use the strong salt solution to kill the spores first and then the oil of cloves inhibits the re-growth.
Patricia
07-01-2008, 04:36 PM
By strong salt solution I mean like a bag of cooking salt into a bucket of luke warm water...let dry and then brush dried salt off.

Patric-does this method kill germs? Also whats the cost of clove oil?
Of course im interested in chemical free products but so far i have gone with chemicals because they from *my* knowledge they have been all i know that not only kill germs but are relitivly cheap (depending of course what brand/product you buy)

Manda, from memory a small bottle is less than $10...buy a good brand like Sun Spirit ...
You only need to add 3 or 4 drops to a Litre of water :)...it is very potent stuff and I assure you that it does work :)

When I worked as a cleaner I had to use industrial chemicals all day every day to clean and consequently I now cannot use any type of bleach or potent chemical in my own home or the side effects are just horrendous.
I have found that the only things that I can use in my bathroom that removes everything with not a great deal of effort is the detergent inpregnated scourers. They only cost a few bucks for about 20 of em and I use about 3 for the bathroom and they get all the crap of the screens and everything. I've found that it's really inportant to dry everything after I'm finished that way I see where I may have missed and the no water is sitting there pooling and attracting more bugs.
Hi ladies while on this subject DD rang me she is cleaning her house to be handed back tomorrow as she is moving out.
She said there a small amount of mould under the seal in the shower?
Any ideas so she can disguise this before the Real Estate looks at the house tomorrow?
I dont think its that bad but she is fussy and she doesnt want to have to pay for it?
Thanks ladies!
