Ok all you carpet cleaning tipsters. Bub managed to get into the liquor stash and we now have barndy liqueur over the carpet. I'm pretty sure it's a wool blend of some description. I have cleaning methods for a variety of things, including beer and wine, but not for liqueur specifically. Any ideas? Or what would it be similar to - oil, crayon, egg, fruit juice, grease, lipstick, soft drink?

Have you tried the bi-carb/salt thing?? Something like that! U put on the carpet and it soaks in and then u vacuum and it disappears:) Something along those lines anyway:yes: Its the best advice u have had yet anywayLMAO

No-one wants to reveal their secrets :( or no-one has a toddler who has invaded their liqueurs! LMAO Actually, when I first rang hubby, he told me the bottle was 3/4 full and there was only a small patch on the carpet! Then I freaked - what do you do if your 18 month old has swallowed half a bottle of alcohol? But, we cleared it up very quickly :)

As for teh carpet, I've mopped it with a damp cloth but it's still there. I'm thinking vinegar, but not sure how it will go... bicarb's good for odours but I haevn't found it to be terribly useful; on removing stains from carpets...

Well I dunno thenLMAO Maybe bring in the cleaners or hirer one of those carpet shampooers from the chemist:yes: Other than that sit and wait for someone to answer-I thought one of the older ladies may have one of those home made ideas- like using coca cola to clean your brass:D Other than that ring dad? He is a wealth of information at times altho he is a bit down today because of everything etc

OK this one I can answer from experience. When I moved house a box was left unpacked for a while and it contained a bottle of Galliano that was upside down ! So it slowly leaked for weeks.

About a week before I noticed it I spotted a tip in Sharon Lush's sunday column about liquers in carpet and it stuck in my mind !

Anyway - she first suggested that you sponge it with very hot water - this melts the sugar in the liquer that will have hardened into the carpet.
Then you do the multiple soak and sponge up with paper towel for a few days.

my stain was the size of a dinner plate (bright yellow on a pale green carpet!) and this took me about a week of daily sponging. I was left with a dark yellow circle about the size of a 20 cent piece so I tried out Orange Oil carpet spray. After two attempts with that it was all gone.

Cool! Thanks so much. Was using warm water but I didn't want to set it with anything else. So, I'll try the hot water - makes sense too :)

Yes its funny how Sharon Lush's suggestions seem so logical after you read them. I always think gee that was such a simple idea surely I could have thought of it ! hahaha.
