i want to do some canvas wall hangings for my 3 year old son & nearly 8 year old daughter, i know what i want to do but it's just the matter of trying to do it....
For my son i want boat, plane, water, stars, you know boy things...... I want alot of little ones that will go together anyway you wan them.
For my daughter well she's a surfer Chic so anything beachie, flowers etc.....
Something bright & welcoming.....
Again i would like a few big ones & the rest little....
Can you just use stencils to do the painting or should you do it free hand?
Has anyone else done these?
the price to buy them already done are out of my price range - well not that i can't afford them but i just think that i could make them for less & then they are something special for the kids as mum made them......
Any advice on what paint to use on canvas & anything else would be great...
thanks ladies i'm feeling very arty:)

I was thinking of doing this myself....I was at Riot Art & Craft looking for something else and there was a lady there buying heaps of canvas blocks and loads of acrylic paint. I asked her if she was a painter and she said no, she was just thinking of doing some abstract paintings to brighten up her family room. They had stencils for sale there which I would use because I'm rubbish at drawing anything more complex than a flower. :hehe:
Another idea (if you aren't confident that you can do it yourself), have you thought about going to the markets?? I noticed at the South Bank ones last Friday there was a lady there doing free hand canvas painting on demand - so basically whatever you wanted. The price wasn't all that steep either, depending on the size of the canvas, and had I not been going to the concert, I would have stopped to get one or two done :D I was thinking that perhaps they had something like that at the markets in Sydney.
Happy painting Mel :jump:

Mel, all the canvas paintings I have done have been freehand.
All you need to do though is find the pictures you want and then draw them with a pencil on the canvas (that way you get the size you want).
If you can't draw them or they are too difficult to draw, you can get a light box (or even use a lamp or torch) to sit the canvas on and put the picture under the canvas so that you can see through it to trace it.
When you are painting it, to get a good edge on the actual shape of the picture, paint/colour it in first with the paint and once it is all dry, go around the edges of the drawing in black.
Good luck - they are a heap of fun to do :)
