My 28 week glucose screening cam eback borderline high so I had anotehr one today. This time I had to fast from last night. I arrived and was surprised to find I got to have TWO blood tests. I am not a fan of needles, so lucky me! :D So, I had the blood test, drank the horrible glucose mixture then had to wait two hours for the next blood test. I had to stay there the whole time and the chairs are sooo uncomfortable! So, basically a 2 1/2 hour visit being uncomfortable, tired and starving! (tired because no. 3 had a bad night) I've only had a banana as I'm meeting friends for lunch at 12. Okay, enough whinging - don't know how diabetics do needles every day!

I had gestational diabetes with both of my pregnancies. Thes second time around I knew what to do to keep the blood sugar down, so I didn't need to give myself insulin shots. This experience showed me what diabetics have to go through every day and it got me motivated, as far as getting into shape. That's a work in progress.:D.

Thanks girls :) Had a very nice chicken satay burger for lunch (which went from 12-6 :)). Had a lovely afternoon and had almost forgotten about this morning. I always tell them too Di, but this one still hurt - twice! I usually find the older nurses are more gentle (maybe more experienced?). I'm counting on the results being fine... I'll be in for a surprise if they're not! I honestly don't know how I'd go if I had to give myself shots each day... I know if you have to you have to, but...

Of course I'll be fine :D I have three kids asleep and a hubby out fishing so I can sit on the computer uninterrupted.. can't be much more fine than that can it? Oh, that sounds so sad...

Not worried about needles anymore....I have the scars to prove it.

Hi Kezabelle,
I am sure you will be fine, but in case you do have GD it does not necessarily mean that you'd have to do shots. There is new medication out there and you can also, in some cases, control your sugar with exersize. Over here in the US the doctor lets you try & control it on your own & sends you to a nutritionist first. The way I controlled it second time was that after every major meal I went on the stationary bike for 20 minutes. That brought down my sugar and as an added bonus I lost weight.

That sounds good Romana! I spoke to a friend yesterday who had it and she said similar things. I wonder if that's part of the problem... Because my hips have 'gone' this pregnancy, the doctor said 'no more walking, yoga, pilates, etc'. The plan was to swim every day, but as the weather has been horrendous, it hasn't happened and I've been saying to everyone I can't believe how unfit I have become in such a short time. So, maybe I just need to jump in the pool even though it is freezing! :D

Swimming is great, I am a swimmer myself. Do you have a gym nearby with a lap pool? I guess you could not get on a stationary bike because of your hips. How about water aerobics? I am trying to think of something that you could do at home.

We have a pool int he back yard so you inspired me into it this afternoon! :) It was cold but I warmed up soon enough. The kids were in too so that helped :)
