Does anyone know if blogher.com will pay out for their ads to Australia?

I couldn't find any info on it on their site and when i try to contact then through their advertising site it says I don't have access?

I haven't looked into their ads at all to be honest. Karen and Jen use there ads, so I guess they must do. Karen might be popping in today, so maybe she can answer.

oh thanks I was wondering if there we any Aussie bloggers using ther ads.

The appeal to me as I think they'd be quite a good fit for where I want to take my blog, plus I like the look of them which is important to me... not that you'd know it from how my blog currently looks...

I don't want to make millions from blog ads and have been umming and aahing about it but if it can pay for my hosting and mean I can go to my own domain and wordpress then I think it might be worth it.

It can be hard for Aussie to find decent ads that are targeted at out market. It's something I constantly struggle with.

It seems that blogher has closed applications for their ads until next year.

There is adsense, not everyone is keen on it and unless you have the traffic, it can be a waste of time.

There are some Australian affilate networks you could try like www.commissionmonster.com.au and www.clixgalore.com

have you thought about offering private ads?

thanks for the links I will go check them out... I am not going to be ready for ads until next year anyway... and I have thought about private advertisers but I don't think anyone would bother with my little blog. I have big dreams... but I know I will start out small and take a while to even attempt to work up to them! LOL

thanks

I'd advertise on your blog Kate, but I don't know if I am your market with Mamaluna! :D

I'm stuck half way through the process with blogher. Have emailed them twice but wondering if they're not taking any blogs right now because they're on holidays or something as they haven't responded yet (which is unusual as they were prompt responding to my other enquiries).

The reason I'm stuck is that you're supposed to fax or scan and email the application form and I haven't had success doing either of those things.

I have tried google adsense but their high payout figure ($100) makes it harder for small bloggers. My main reason for taking them off my old blogger site (before I moved) was that it seemed like some bloggers would get close to the payout figure and then have their accounts pulled and never get paid. I didn't like the idea that I might be advertising for free at the whim of google.

I have tried affiliates with minimal success. The most success I've had with affiliates (2 sales) was when I added the affiliate link inside my post (and it was specifically related to my post).

oh I will be keen to hear how you end up with blogher.... I just really like the look of their ads which was what initially appealed.

I haven't looking into advertising all that much as I really want my own domain and web hosting first, then I will probably need to build traffic - I can't imagine my measly 3000 hits a month will get me anywhere LOL

Hey, all.

BlogHer have just announced they are closing all new applications to join their blog ad network - so lightening that may be why they're not responding (still - that they're not is odd)

If think they hope to re-open in 2008 sometimes.

As for private ads, I will get into this shortly - I just need someone with photoshop ability to do up a button for me. I like those affiliate links Leigh, thanks.

I'm taking off Amazon shortly - earned $0. Auction Ads is better. Adsense - meh- I'm undecided to keep it or not. I'm not utilising it properly. I need to be more aggressive in its placement, but I don't want to be. My husband already thinks the blog is choked with ads anyway (I disagree).

Not that I know anything... but I don't think your blog looks 'choked with ads' at all... I like the layout, it is easy to tell what are ads and what are not (like good causes you support etc).

Thanks so much for sharing your experience.. total noob at this and I find the whole monetization of blogs fascinating! That people who write about something they enjoy can get money from it.. it almost seems magical! Though I do understand that it isn't going to make me rich... my main goal is to have it pay for my hosting... but we shall see!

I've just started offering private advertising on my blog. Like everything else, there is a down side as well as benefits. I don't like chasing people for money and threatening to take down their ads if they don't pay my invoice. But when advertisers do pay you get the money up front.

I also use the affiliate marketing sites commission monster and clixgalore. But this type of advertising is tipped in the advertisers favour because you only get paid if there is a sale from a click through from your website, but the advertiser gets unlimited exposure for their brand on your site.

Google adsense works for a lot of bloggers in the US but I'm not sure how successful it has been for blogs based in Australia and New Zealand.

Has anyone tried using text link ads on their site?

I make about $50 per month from hosting a few links in my sidebar and doing nothing else. And you get right of veto as well so you don't find yourself linking to porn sites ore anything like that.

If you want to know more about it, I wrote a post on them here (http://www.scrapsofmind.com/2007/10/22/earn-some-money-with-your-blog/).

I use TLA, but I wouldn't recommend it to others to use. I make a few $100 from it, but have no page rank as a result. The traffic is the same, so for the time being I can live without the pagerank to help pay for the server.

Well it's all a bit of a mystery to me Leigh.

I've been using TLA for several months and in the last Google upheaval Scraps of Mind shot up in the rankings from 0 to page Rank 4.

Go figure?
