View Full Version : How did you start blogging?

I remember many years ago reading about these so-called "weblogs" or "blogs" as those in the know referred to them, in a Sunday paper. I thought it was kind of interesting but weird - who writes about their life? who reads about other people's lives? There were a couple of urls for blog rolls so I had a look out of interest, I found a few blogs that I started to read regularly. I don't think any of them exist anymore, and believe it or not I do sometimes wonder what is happening in their lives.
Quite a long time later I set up a blog for pictures of my cats, it was kind of tongue-in-cheek and no-one read it, not surprisingly. My blog is named after our two oldest cats (Barney and Nik ~ barnikle) and we've owned the domain name ever since.
I kept a blogger blog while I was trying to conceive my first child and my subsequent pregnancy but I have conveniently forgotten the name, the password LOL It was a terrible piece of emotional blathering and I hope never to see a word of it again! (It is also the reason why I've decided I will never be a "blog about my daily life" person).
Over time our barnikle blog has metamorphosed into a place where our family and friends can see pictures (and read occasional stories) of our children as they grow up ... the cats still occasionally have a look in too :hehe:
We've had a few big bumps such as not backing up and having the (cheap and nasty) host crash and burn *sob sob* but still I keep on blogging.

Have been trying to think for the last few hours...why/how? What prompted me but its blank..get that a lot LOL. Maybe it was you?
I remember when you first set up your blog, I read it!
I started putting together static sites, with kids pics on about 7yrs ago. I started another blog a few years after that but I was so shocking at updating (not much has changed). But I realised the cat pictures were becoming quite popular, and they had fans. So I moved it to my old web design domain..and that's were we are now.
I would like to blog a little more about day to day stuff..not too much tho, I really struggle with that. On my list for next year.
The All for Women blog is only about 9mths old. We didn't have a site other than the forums for the first 2yrs or so because I couldn't come up with anything I liked, so nothing was better than crap at the time.
I am soo glad I actually did it, the blog has really changed the site for the better, and I have met some fantastic people that I other wise would not have.

The story of my blog's beginning is.......long.
In a nutshell, I was looking for a way to perhaps getmy writing some sort of wider profile. And it was suggested to me as a way of combating my rampant (at the time) anxiety issues, stemming from my 2nd baby.

I only really started blogging about 2 months ago.
I did try to start a blog about 18 months ago but had nothing to say (which is vary rare for me LOL) but I really didn't know what to blog about.
I mostly started because all my friends were blogging and I was feeling a little left out :( (yeah I know, it's sad - give me a hug :hehe:). So....... when I started training again I wanted to keep a diary of what I was doing - more to look back on and see how I was feeling and what I was doing at the start etc etc.
To put it all in a blog was the perfect answer - I finally had something I could blog about and could keep an online diary at the same time. I'm just so clever LMAO.

I had (and still do have) a Live Journal for many years. I first started it as a way to improve my writing. I have a very hard time putting what I want to say down on the page. So I chugged along with my LJ for a very long time and watched the world of blogging explode. I always wanted to go and play in the blogosphere, but it took me until NaBloPoMo this year to finally make the leap. I am still trying to find my voice. I thought I would blog about technology and social networking but I found the odd posts I put in there about my life were getting a better response, so it is has kinda moved over to being about my life with a splattering of tech stuff in there.

I think in my first post I wrote something along the lines of "everyone else is doing it so why not me". I belong to a few forums and I get irritated with uploading the same photos on all of them, so now I tend to blog about them instead. :)
Started off with EVIL blogger and after a bit of a hiccup, some tearing out of hair, a bit of stupidity on my part and a lot of cut and pasting (and then some more), I'm now on hosted Wordpress which has made blogging a whole lot more enjoyable :D

I started about a year ago during a time in my life that was rather restricted as I wasn't well enough to get out as much as I would "normally". The computer at this time was my lifeline and so I guess starting a blog became a natural extension of that. A few friends on some yahoo groups would talk about their blogs and I'd occasionally read them. So, I jumped into the blogpond and found it all rather addicting. It took me about 6 months to really get into the swing of it. And it's only been in the past few months I guess that I've really started to get my head around the whole blogging thing and venture out to reading different blogs and actually learning more about blogging. As opposed to sticking in my own little corner of the world. Once I realised how exciting it was to GET comments, I made more effort to move around and comment on other blogs as well.
Now, if you took my blog and my blogging friends away from me.....I'd be rather lost.
