One of the concerns I have had about doing pay per posts and online advertising is how do you get taxed or calculate the tax for these earnings?
Do people actually pay tax on their online earnings or is it something that they never mention to the government and hope that the tax office never finds out about?

Hi Riayn

Up until recently I had syndicated content from the federal government business portal on my site and I will integrate back into the new format as soon as I have the time to fiddle with all the coding for 394 pages of content. Anyway, I learned a few things from this content.

Firstly, you don't have to worry about paying tax as you go at this stage. All you have to do is include any income from your blog in your next tax return. The Australian Taxation Office will then let you know if you will have to make regular contributions which they call PAY AS YOU GO.

The tax office has a great little booklet you can download which will tell you everything you need to know about tax and running a business from home. You can download the Tax Obligations for home based businesses at the url http://www.ato.gov.au/content/downloads/n10709.pdf
