Hi girls, DS swallowed a 5 cent piece (slightly bigger than a penny for the US girls) last night.

You ask how? He was playing with his wallet in bed, lying down of course. From what I gather he threw the money in the air and it landed in his mouth and he swallowed it!

I laughed at first and then thought as I went to bed, gee I hope he's OK. DH seems to think it'll come out eventually.

He did try and throw up this morning, so it's obviously in his belly causing havoc. I'm hoping it comes out in his next poo.

So, you know what fun I'll be having today! LMAO

:O Poor boy, hope it comes out ok!

Sophia choked on a 10c piece a couple of months ago (still at that age of putting everything in her mouth). I'd cleaned the room but missed this one coin and she started gagging and choking and when I turned her upside down, out came the coin. I was SO scared, I'm paranoid about money now (Hugo has a moneybox full of coins that he loves to tip out).

:O Susiq I hope DS is ok.

I remember swallowing a 2c coin many years ago and yes it does eventually come out the other end.

Oh Naomi, I can imagine the panic you'd have gone through!

Thanks Patricia, yes DS is fine. Bouncing around the place this morning and telling me he can feel the money bouncing in his belly!

It's just a waiting game now.

I 'm glad he's OK. It's amazing what kids do when they entertain themeselves. My son Filip , about three years ago, stuck about 5 tiny balls into one of his nostrils. He was palying with his Thomas the Train coal mining set. Thank goodness we were able to squeeze them out one by one. My sister in law, when she was about 3, stuck acorns in my father-in law's ear canal when he was sleeping. He did have to go see the doctor to get them out.:)

oh the joys of waiting till that coin passes.. thank god none of my kids have done that yet, considering everything goes into their mouths.

the neighbours dog swolled a 50c piece and it ended up having surgery to be removed as it got stuck in his intestines. they found all sorts in his tummy, screws and other bits of metal.. apparently this dog like eating metal items.

hope your son passes it soon.

He will be fine Susiq:yes: I swallowed a marble when I was younger and I remember being taken to the hospital and they showed a marble up on a projector and told me not to worry as it had come out(think I was a bit hysterical)LMAO Mind u it wasnt till years later I was told how it had actually come out:)

Good luck with that search Susie Q!! If it was me, I would contact your Dr, as if the coin doesn't pass naturally in a certain amount of hours, I think that they give him a xray, and check where it is. It can get caught up, and become quite dangerous!
I was only discussing this with some girlfriends on the weekend, and it happened to one of their sons, he had a xray, but thankfully passed through naturally.:D

None to report as yet girls. He did do a number 2 but I didn't inspect it fully.

He seems to be bouncing around at the moment, but I will call my GP all the same.

hhehe so know where you ar coming from!

Bell swallowed a magnetix ball (roughly the size of a marble but metal).....24 hrs later when there was no news so to speak mum had dropped by and i said "Do you feel like a trip to the hospital anytime soon?" LMAO she asked why in a half paniced way.....i told her and she pissed herself laughing. We(mum and I) gave her a couple of doses of nu-lax failing that we were going to go to hosp. eventually she pooped it out!

I just made her poop into a ice cream container ...so i could inspect each BM

Dyaln still complains that he is missing a magnetix ball thanks to bell! LMAO

I had to go through the "it's-so-funny-to-put-beads-up-my-nostril" episode two years ago...:argh:
And that obviously does not come out the other end!
The things they do!...

What fun you must have had searching for the evidence - eeewww

Glad it all turned out well, but did a little research ( I like to know facts & figures - that's just me)

....exact figures are unavailable, foreign body ingestion is very common among children. In the United States, approximately 1,500 deaths per year are attributed to the ingestion of foreign bodies
An event that is witnessed by a parent, guardian, or sibling offers the best hope of early intervention because up to 35% of pediatric patients with esophageal foreign bodies are asymptomatic

While it was ok and it 'worked out' in the 'end' :D, it can be pretty serious stuff

I bet it scared both of you.

My 3 year old swollowed a toy ring and was choking that much that I called the ambo's. I was so scared he would die in my arms.

I hope he has learnt his lesson about opening his wallet while lying down. :D
