A girl at hubby's work is having a baby, I was talking to her yesterday and she told me that she is well over 2 weeks overdue :O

How long do doctors let expectant mothers go over their due dates these days?

I thought that 2 weeks overdue was the maximum, unless they are pretty sure the dates are wrong. I, myself, went 10 days over with my first,:faint: and the midwives had given me a two week deadline. If the baby diesn't come, I would have been induced!!

I had an appointment on my due date nearly 2 years ago and an appointment was made for me to be induced 9 days later (luckily it didn't come to that though!) My doc said that he didn't like anyone going over 9 days.

The hospital Hugo was born at was 2 weeks. He came within a day of that and I was monitored for the second week to make sure he was still happy.

I went to a different hospital with Sophia and asked about their policy. They didn't have a set time, as long as mother was happy and baby was safe - but we didn't need to test that :hehe:

I think it differs by hospital and obstetrician. Both times we went to a birth centre which is low intervention so less likely to push to induce early.

2 weeks over due is the normal.. perhaps her dates aren't too acurate so they aren't worried.

I be making sure that something happens to get that kid out if I was 2 weeks over.

I went 2 weeks over with my eldest and they had me booked in for induction and she decided to come herself the day before I was due at hospital.

Apparently she is very sure of her dates and she was two weeks overdue last Sunday :dk:

I am sure I would be getting anxious by now.

Often teh mother is very sure of her dates, but the scans show the dates are different. This may not be the case, I just know a number of cases that are similar. The current theory (so I was just told when booking in to hospital) is 2 weeks before and 3 weeks after is normal. My DS was 2 weeks over. I haven't really heard of anyone going over that.

I know of someone who went nearly 3 weeks over, but I'm sure the hospital would offer an induction before that.

I went 20 days over my due date and was booked in the be induced when it all started (think the fear of the inducement was enough to kick him along).

It depends on whose date the doctor and mother are going by. As a midwife I have seen huge descrepencies between doctor date and mother date. The going time frame is approx 10 days post dates. The date that is usually taken in these cases are from the earliest SCAN and if it is before 12 weeks then it is deemed to be the most accurate.
