Well, I went to see the obstetrician today and he wanted to book my c-section for the 29th February - he was actually quite adamant. But I was also adamant that I was not electing to have a child born on that date - I do have a choice after all :)
I remember in primary school one of the kids had that birthday and we all thought - how cool. But I think it would irritate me as a parent, and if I was the one with the birthday. What do you think?

Can you ask to have your baby delivered on the 28th Feb or the 1st March, does one day make much difference? Though I guess the 1st March is a Saturday.

I reckon he's having trouble scheduling births for that day, not surprisingly - that's probably why he's being so pushy.
Personally I wouldn't want a birthday on 29 Feb and I wouldn't choose to have my baby born on that day either.

Everyone I have met with a 29th Feb birthday has always gotten a bit of a kick out of it.. It is always a topic of discussion! But having said that, I can understand why you would not want that particular day given the choice.. I don't think I would want to either :)

It isn't going to happen on that day, he just wanted it as he has another caesarian booked for that day. I said I'd really rather not if he can come up with a solution, so he'll give me another date.
I just spoke to some mums at the swimming carnival about it and they were basically in agreement that htey wouldn't want it - but a couple thought it would be fun. I figure it will be a kick when bub is younger, but then the novelty would wear off and it would be annoying.

I think as a child I'd be sad if my 'real' birthday only happened every four years. As an adult I probably wouldn't mind so much (maybe?). But if you want another day, have another day - one of the benefits of a planned C :)

I don't think it would be a huge issue. DS is born on September 11 - a year after the disaster.
I was really apprehensive about having him on that day but you know what - you get used to it!
I know the 29th of Feb is a different kettle of fish but like Rachel said, it would always be a great topic of discussion.

Exactly :) If I didn't have a choice, I'd obviously have to go with it. But,...

I dont think it would phase me too much! It would be cool for a while but the then novelty would wear off. I can understand if it wasnt a planned c-section and you went into labour (thats another story)
But if you can choose the date your baby is born, then it should be one that you like!

True Keza. Since you have a choice, sounds like you might be having a few more discussions with your OB
On another point, doesn't he realise he should not be stressing out a VERY pregnant woman with this!

Ask the OB if there is a discount......

I don't think I'd really care. Half the time my birthday passes before I realise that it's on so I imagine once every four years might let me appreciate it for once :hehe:

True Stormy - think how young you'd be! :)

Exactly, I'd have another 23 years to worry about turning 30 instead of only 2 LMAO
