So, I've finally started to sort out the study (when we moved in 13 months ago, we basically dumped everything that had nowhere to go in there, then over the past year, have just added to the chaos ). I have quite a large pile of papers that I don't want to keep, but don't want to just put out in the general waste. It's really not enough to call a shredding company but I'm not sure how to get rid of it safely.

How do you get rid of your confidential documents?

I shred them myself....I bought a shredder at Australia Post for around $40. After I've finished shredding I put it in the recyle bin but I mess up the shreds so they can't be matched up. Ultra paranoid here. :tfbeanie:

I used to set fire to the shreds in a big steel paint tin but John for some reason gets really nervous about this, especially in the dry. Although right now I would get no arguments since the ground is saturated. :P

Bring them to work and shred them here, we also have security recycling bins, that are also used for shreding documents.

Can't DH take some to work with him Naomi and get them destroyed there?

Tear them up and put them in the bin. .....I double bag all rubish before it goes in the big bin...And our big bin is an industrial one and there are 2 other bins the same in this area, one at the hotel and one at the shops here (bait shop & 2 food shops) So im confident no one will go sifting thru the gabage with all the yukky rubbish those places have!

I use to use a little hand winding shredder that I got from one of those mail order catalogues that seems to always arrive in the post.

But I kinda killed it from over use so I bought the $29 shredder from Australia Post. The cheaper one just shreds in lines like a standard shredder.
The slightly dearer one - $39 does diamond cutting so instead of streamers use get diamond shaped confetti and I think it also does cds and dvds and credit cards.

And like some others above - I split my shredding into a few different bins! Aint no private detective or identity thief out there ready to go through that many bins to re join the dots !!

Give them to Hugo and Sophia, with a box of crayons, let them go for it, then cut them in pieces

I burn everything here in a big copper type drum but we do have 5 acres, so no one to complain about an out door fire
