Not sure if any of you actually know the answer to this, but...
Over the last couple of months of rain, rain, rain and flooding... we have developed a bit of a mould problem. We were away during the worst of the rain, and with the house being locked up and the ridiculously high humidity, a lot of the house became mouldy. The recent flooding has produced more! So, I'm doing the usual vinegar thing, etc - but does the vinegar actually kill the mould spores? I know Patricia suggested oil of cloves and I really need to go and get some, but wondering about the vinegar?
Also, in the case of material things such as clothes, school bags, kids toys, etc will washing it in vinegar produce the same effect. I've soaked the kid's school bags in nappy san and most of it came out, but there's still a few patches, so I'm assuming the mould is still active? Do I try vinegar next? Will oil of cloves mark things such as material, wood, etc?

here are a few links that might help you. i've never had the problem, so i'm not much help, but i looked at a few different links and they all pretty much say the same thing, but they all have different solutions-one says vinegar, another says clorox, etc. :) good luck!

With clothes i use a soaker thats called Supreme (thats the brand name ) Oxy Active.
I'm so impressed with the results i get from it. I have only had one thing that it didnt remove the stain from and this particular item went into strong bleach and that didnt remove it either -So i guess that stain isnt ever going to come out.
Cannot recommend this enough. Its also cheaper than the real Napisan :)

The oil of cloves has never marked anything when I have used it.
Kezza I would be trying the strong salt solution next....

You're doing this the natural way right.....would Planet Ark have any suggestions/
On the boat I used some of these products (http://www.floodaustralia.net/products/mpbook/mouldaction.htm)and was very impressed.

Thanks girls - will try a few of those suggestions :) And yes Heather, I'd prefer a natural solution. I have this horrible cough I've picked up and I'm sure it's from all the mould. Can't believe how much there is - every time I move something I find more :( Wish the rain would stop so everything can dry out!

You got that right....it brings up my whites really nicely compared to pink Napisan and the amount of money you save is a real bonus as well. I've found it's great for getting mould out of tea towels that I forgot to air out before putting in the hamper.
Kerrie I hope it's starting to dry out a little for you down there so that you can get on top of it :fx:

Thanks again girls. The mould reappeared with our flooding last weekend.... So I had to redo everything. It's mainly downstairs which is on a cement slab, so with the rain, heat and humidity... Yay! I'm just far too tired at the moment to really tackle it with as much energy as I need! Just over 3 weeks til bub is entering the world, and I have this horrible cough which zaps half my energy... grr! But, I'll try a couple of those suggestions and see how I go. I'm just a bit paranoid about ruining some of the furniture and things - haven't had to tackle mould outside a bathroom before! :)
Actually, was at a friend's this afternoon and we were talking about it (everyone around here is battling it at the moment) and she told me that she went around the house spraying Exit Mould! You can imagine the efect on the paintwork! :D
