I've decided I want some curtains for our sliding door in the kitchen. No one can see in from outside because we have a fence up but I just think it would be nice to have something over that window. We have a curtain rod up now but I'm thinking of getting some curtains made (my aunty sews a lot and says she is happy to make them) but all the curtain material I've looked at has white backing on it (it's not rubber though). What's the point of this?? Is the idea that you put the white side facing the outside or you buy double material so that you have pattern inside and outside?? :dk:

And while I'm at it, why are the curtain prints so damn ugly?? I found a few in the colours I want but apart from the plain lime green, the prints are just awful - they look like they are from the 1940s. Well the material at Spotlight was anyway, not sure about other places. :hehe:

I have a similar problem Kay....and I like to have the doors covered at times to help keep the heat in/out. The curtains I've got from Spotlight (or may have been Lindcraft) are plain navy blue tab curtains....they are single layer and I find are exactly what is needed.

We had the same problem with the sliding door in the kitchen and ended up getting the curtains made.

I decided to spend the extra money for a good quality fabric as they would get a hiding from being in the sun all the time ...it too was coated like you spoke about...the coated side faces outside and the colored side inside:)

We had lovely big glass sliders in the dining rom at Bribie & we had a covered patio so the sun did'nt hit the doors & i just could'nt put anything up to them because i just loved to feel that i was taking in more of the outside i had verticals throughout the rest of the home but they only ever were closed of a night.
sorry Kay i have been no help at all lol

Well once the backyard is finished I will be more happy about looking out but at the moment, I'd rather not be depressed about all the work that we still have to do :hehe:

The patio does shield from the sun a fair bit in the afternoon but around 5pm, it really hits us in the eyes and heats up the kitchen/dining area - probably why we tend to eat later even on the weekends. :)

If anyone sees a nice pale lime green print anywhere in their travels I'd love to hear about it. Particularly if it's at a chain like Spotlight because they carry similar stock from what I've seen. Oh and I'm after a pretty blue/green one for our bedroom as well. :D

well i know this wont really help Kay but you could get tinting put on the window & if you had thought of going without curtains when the back is done , could you just buy a big king size sheet for now . sorry i know i told you i am no help

I thought that maybe you felt the same way as me....sometimes a big expanse of glass just needs a covering to 'dress' the wall.

Have you looked at Ikea? The do pre-made tab curtains that just slide onto the curtain rod. We got some plain navy blue linen ones, I don't know if they have any prints though.

Oh I hadn't thought of Ikea....I think of them more for furniture and the likes. Will have to go and check them out on the weekend :D

Just a thought-when I make curtains up(which has been about 3 times in totalLMAO) I actually double them up-as in have the print on both sides-it is obviously more expensive but u get the pattern on both sides and it is twice as thick (so if u get thinner material it keeps the sun out more):) Probably not much help:)
