OK this was in the either Take 5 or Thats Life mag a couple of weeks ago, I got all my ingredients at Coles & just the no name brand stuf cheap as chips:

2 cups grated pure soap
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax
500g bicarb soda.

Grate soap, add all remaining ingredients & whiz in a blender until a fine powder. Use a tablespoon for top loaders & a teaspoon for front loaders.

I have done 2 loads & they look clean :D

Do you recycle your washing water to the plants?

I have heard of that recipe ..but a few had problems with it :DK:

I usually buy the el cheapo brand on special for $3 at most, normally its $1.8? -$2.49 for 1 KG...which i make last me a week, but its one of the items ill buy a few off regradless of whether i need it or not if its on special. Like right now i have 3 boxes sitting in there. So i have about 3 weeks supply incase of emergency when im on a REALLY tight week, i dont have to buy it.

Manda, what problems did they have?

I have rashy people in my family, I wonder if this will be less reactive than the strong scented detergents.

Naomi I was told by a Doctor the best thing to wash babies clothes if they have sensitive skin is just grated sunlight soap, that's all I ever used for my babies, trouble is today the mechanism's of the washing machines often cant handle soap.

Manda what washing powder do you buy, that is very cheap even on sale here a kilo box is never under $6,00

Might be worth a shot, but I gotta admitt that I use a liquid (Woolworths Select)+a scoop of napisan in each wash so I like em real clean. All my water goes onto the grass and it's beautifull, don't know if I'm killing the soil though with the napisan, but it looks good. :)
