View Full Version : Giving up the battle

Hi girls. Well, I thought I'd given up two nights ago, but it wasn't til this morning that I truly conceded defeat! As you know, the house is in disarray with the renovations, the flooding and the mould of the last few weeks. Two nights ago, hubby and a freind ripped up the carpet and half the lino in the kitchen, dining and living areas. That's when I decided that I just would not have this house even somewhat organised before the baby is born.
The painting is only half done, as is the staining of all the skirting boards, etc downstairs. As a result, the furniture is piled in a corner as hubby wants to do the floors first (ripped up carpet so need to clean the cement, polish the slab and seal it).
Upstairs now also has most of the furniture piled in to a corner and no floor covering... The deck is almost finished at least (should be done halfway through next week).
So, the only completely functional parts of the house are the upstairs bedrooms, one lounge and the bathrooms. The kitchen benches and equipment are also in use of course.
So, I decided that I would just focus on those bits and at least have part of the house under control... But, it is not to be! I went out yesterday and left the windows and doors open, but all the screens locked. The builders tried hard to get in and close them for me... But, the wind came up and the entire house is now coated in a layer of sawdust! Everything! :headh: I've spent the morning rewashing clothes that were hanging up to dry, washing up that was drying on the sink, dusting every piece of electrical equipment with a paintbrush for the nooks and crannies, and the layer just keeps reappearing... Aaaargh!
So, as bub is due in 3 sleeps , I'm conceding defeat!
That must be so frustrating for you, Kezabelle!
I imagine you would feel like you are hitting your head against a brick wall, but I'm sure there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. :comfort:

Wow..what a mess but yet you are sounding so calm about it Kerrie...not sure I would be.
I think you should drag out your stay in hospital as loooooong as you possibly can in the hope that while you are there all your family and friends will all pitch in and come around and help hubby get everything finished by the time you get home.

That's the plan Patricia :hehe: The hospital said I can stay for 10 days - and apparently they're one of the few that actually let you! So, hubby knows I am comin ghome to a new house - so the faster it's finished...
As for patience, I'm anything but! But :), on the other hand, I accepting I just can't do it has made me relax a lot more so that's helped!
Ohhh what a shamozzle can your hubby work on 1 job at a time until it is completely finished & then move to the next instead of having lots of things started?
I like Patricia's idea

Kerrie I hope the extended hospital stay helps!
I tried to stay longer with my last two in the hope that a a bit of a clean up would happen.........stupid me! I came home to not only the house untidy from when i left in labour but also the extra few days mess as well!
But im sure your hubby is more resposible than "him"
I really feel for you, Can you afford to get a cleaner in to help?
Goodluck with the birth! tressure every painful minute! I cant believe how much i miss Olivias labour..and it was only 2 mths ago!
Wishing bub a healthy happy entrance to this world!

Can you recruit some friends or neighbors, maybe bribe them with some chilli and beer?
I know how frustrating it must be, we were in the middle of remodeling when Filip was born.:headh:
And this is the time you're supposed to be nesting!:comfort:
Good luck with everything!:)

My MIL is staying here when I have bub so I'm assuming (probably wrongly) that the house will at least remain vaguely how I left it!
I'm having a caesarian so won't be treasuring that too much Manda - but fingers crossed I have a much better experience than the last one! The best bit is that they now keep bub with me as soon as the general cleaning, etc is finished. My first three were taken away til I was out of recovery and back in my room and setled. So I am very much looking forward to time with my bub in the first couple of hours!
My MIL has also very generously given us a Xmas present of a cleaner for 8 weeks after I come out of hospital. An amazing gift! Certainly will make life easier and me less stressed. But it's also part of why I've been stressing in the first place - she's part of the mothers' circle here and I don't want her to think I'm a slob! :D But I'm sure she'll understand. She'll probably get in and help the builder - she has so much energy!
So, I shouldn't stress as it will all work out how it's meant to in the end, and as long as everyone's happy, healthy and safe, I have no right to complain. :) In the meantime, hubby is out in the yard trimming trees... just can't seem to stick to one task at a time! And I'm about to continue vacuuming the saw dust!

and I am sure your cleaner will not think of you as a slob (she may think some things about Halfa though:hehe:)
there is a big difference between pig sty and renovating,
good luck with it all Kerrie ahd hopefully hubby is coming back to the second half of all these half done jobs
Three sleeps to go yah hoo:y:
There's a reason I call him 'Halfa' LMAO

OMG 10 days! :O They must not have as much business as we do....they were birthing ladies on the post-natal ward the other night because labour ward was full.
Good luck with the caesar Kerrie....and I hope the cleaning fairy manages to get the house reasonably ship shape before you come home :D :fairy:
Cleaning lady is a fantastic gift. make sure you get those horrid jobs like the oven & windows done too.
Manda how are you & the kids handling being on your own (assuming you are that is :dk:)

Wow 3 more sleeps - that's flown. Good luck with it all.
10 days in hospital sounds like bliss - you're very lucky to be allowed to stay that long.
I hope the house is spotless when you get back!

Thanks girls :D One more sleep - getting rather nervous now... Still haven't packed my bag, house is a mess and I spent two hours having lunch with friends! :D Don't think I'll last 10 days somehow, but i know better than to come home too soon as we have lots of people visiting over the next week or so - and as much as I'd love to see them, I also know that it'll be saner in the hospital! I'm sure Kimba will let you know how it all goes and I'll speak to you all in a week or so!
