after shopping this morning, i was on my way to the car with the shopping trolley.. went past the bus stop, and an elderly man there smiled and said hello.. asked me if i was going anywhere near ....... and could i give him a lift? something about him reminded me of my dad.. not his looks exactly, just something about the twinkle in his old eyes, and the cheeky look he gave me when he asked for the lift.. that 'something' made me say yes, even tho i was going in the opposite direction.. my dad used to ask complete strangers for lifts like that.. he chatted away in the car, kept reminding me of my dad with the way he blamed the government for all the ills in society today... gave me this tale about seeing a doctor, and his car battery dying this morning, but asked me to drop him off just after the club.. just like my dad would have.. :) as he was getting out of the car, he gave me his hand to shake, and with that same twinkle, and a bit of a grin, said if he ever saw me in the club he'd buy me a beer.. just like my dad again... said his name was Robert.. my dad's name was Robert..

so i've had a bit of a weep, but i'm feeling good about my morning.. how strange i thought it was he should have my dad's name...

That is very weird Zen

You have guts though, I wouldn't have done it, you just don't know what could happen- but that's just me. You obviously saw something in his face so you never know, if I was in the same situation and saw what you did, I might have done it too.

I'm glad he reminded you of your dad though and helped you remember some nice memories :)

he was too old and frail looking to be anything but harmless Barbara.. had to be in his late seventies i'd have said.. (yes, dad was in his late seventies when he died)

Wow Zen hoe cool was that, & yes it may have been meant to be for you today, must make you feel a little warm inside. but funny my DH & i were at the service station yesty & an old man had like a mower fuel tin he filled & walked up to my window & asked me if we were going his way which we were'nt so i said "no sorry" but now i really wish i did i must admit i felt a bit mean but we were'nt going that way we had actually just come from there but he never reminded me of my dad either. Oh god Zen i wish i had'nt remembered that now lol but i am happy for you
