I am only a member of 3 other forums. I was thinking if you guys are on any other forums. It would be so funny if I catch to you on other ones?
I dont reply on the other ones because to be honest some people can be quiet mean, but this one seems pretty placid.
Mind you, I plan to make this my main one, if thats cool with you all :P

I doubt you would see me elsewhere Holly....not unless you're a keen environmentalist :)
I am a few cross stitch ones, travel forums, crafts forums, anything else that catches my eye.
I like the ones that you can chat with instantly. instead of leaving messages.

I was on a lot of Women's Sites, (mentioned that in the tech area)
and let me tell you, you have to journey there with caution.
There are none that I would recommend right now.
I feel very odd saying this, because I used to belong...and I mean
daily posting, on over twelve women's sites.
Although I am an absolute newbie, so far, this site has all the
qualities of the best...

I am a member at two - AFW and a working mom s forum. I just got a reminder yesterday asking me to visit another forum I had joined back in the day, but I probably won't. It seems to have too many judgmental people there.
The last this you want when you go to a forum is to have people tell you you're' a bad mom because you don't do things exactly the way they do.
jaylar

I know what you mean about judgemental; what knocks me off a
site is when they are all stuck into some insanity and you aren't
even allowed to ignore it... you have to agree.
On the site with the sick sexual practice? I avoided the
thread. I asked the Mod to close it...she did, then the
owner reinstated, and has the
NERVE TO WRITE ME AN EMAIL
to tell me that I should keep my Opinions to myself...
EXCUSE ME?
On a Message Board and I am to keep my opinions to myself?
Uh huh. Of course the owner engages in the sick practice..
...that's the thing that sends me off an MB...
You may think anything you want no matter how politically
incorrect or superstitious...that is your right.
I was on a forum the other day in which I had mentioned
using Vicks Vapo Rub on my Baby.
They lined up to have me charged with murder (virtually).
My Baby got married in September. Obviously the Vicks
didn't kill her. My mother used it on me, I used it on all
three of my children.
In my day, (the Pliestocine) Doctors told mothers to
put a little vaseline on their finger, use a little
vaporub on the baby's chest and back so she can
breathe easier.
The way those women on the site acted, if I had lived
in America I would be locked up for Child Abuse.
It's that kind of thing that runs me off a Forum.
One of the things with kids is that you have to do what
works. Every child is different. A mother knows her
own child.

Goodness - I didn't realise Vicks Vaporub was a capital offence? My child gets it chest, back, neck and feet - and has to thank goodness I don't follow my grandmother's old remedy and put it up her nose and make her eat it (then again, can't recall grandma having a cold.)
Oops - I forgot to add my bit on forums. I started on a forum about 7 years ago that was wonderful - at least, I never noticed things that were possibly going on, but I was a bit pollyanna! When it closed I saw how forum politics could get, as it went through four incarnations in the next six months and some ended in tears!
I am currently on 3 other forums in addition to this one. An Australian Solo Parents one that is wonderfully supportive and the final incarnation of the above - also great, but there are still some wounds from the fallout 3 years later - both of these I know the participants very well and are fairly small and chatty. I am on a Bloggers Forum but don't contribute much as everyone seems far more "into" it than I can afford (timewise) to be.
I have generally found this board to be friendly and approachable, but it is so big and busy that I don't get to it as often as I should as I know the time will vanish!

This is the point exactly!
Some idiot comes up with this VICKS IS BAD
crap, and when you try to explain your mother
used it on you, you used it on your children,
that doesn't change their opinion that you
should be locked up for child abuse.

Gee if it wasn't for Vick's ..I don't know how I would have gotten through the night on many occassions when I was young. I used to put it up my nose, rub it on my back and chest as well....Great stuff.

Apparently it's true :dk: It says so on the packet. We use the baby balsam for our kids though I have used the adult stuff on Hugo a couple of times.
I'll tell you who it IS bad for, though ... sofas and wool rugs :headh: (actually, maybe that's why it's bad to use on kids - because if the kids get a hold of it and smear it everywhere, it is Not A Pretty Sight).

What I have come to notice, in the past few years, is that even
products designed for babies have these warnings on them due to
some insanity that currently exists in America.
America is a very peculair country. Apparently, drug companies
can bribe folks to certify their crap as safe, advertise it on
T.V. get millions of people to take it, and then seven years
or so, the studies come out that the drug is either harmful,
useless, or has side effects worse than the symptoms it is
trying to treat.
Tried and true methods are often subject to warnings
and all sorts of propaganda.
I certainly would not let a baby, even a week old, suffer
congestion when I can clear their lungs with VICKS. I've
used it on my children, it was used on me.
I'll be very honest, I ignore a lot of 'medical' advice.
I check the information myself on the Internet, and before
there was an internet in books.
I recall when my second son was born they were telling me
about this 'billirubin'. So I went into the Doctor's office
took her book, read what it was, and took my child out of
the hospital.
As he got married in 2005 he apparently didn't die in infantcy.

What a load of HOO HA about VICKS
I used vicks on my daughters and they are still alive and funnily enough I am alive as my mother used vicks on me and my grandmother used vicks and she died at the age of 85
It is a real shame that everything these days cause some form of illness.
Whatever happened to "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger"
These days the children are wrapped so tightly with cotton wool they can barely breath and then people wonder why when they hit puberty/teenagers they go off the rails
I am lucky to live in the country where I believe kids can be kids because if you live in the large city children grown up way too fast.
My girlfriends teenage daughters are a prime example dress way older than they are and start drinking and smoking at an early age, leave school early, get involved in drugs etc.
I am not saying that some country kids are in anyway much different but it doesn't seem to happen as quickly.

i don't think it has to do much with the location-but with the people and also how the parents raise their kids. there's no way in hell becca will be dressing a few years older and all. i remember being a teen and wearing clothes on top of clothes so my mom wouldn't know what i was wearing, but then again i know all the tricks, lol, and i won't just let it slide either. i'm happy becca still plays with her barbies and all-most kids in her grade don't anymore..they all have cell phones as if they really have so much of a social life at 9 to talk on the phone for more than 5 minutes-just my opinion obviously..sorry, went off topic a bit! lol.

Yes Kiki! The creature didn't know what hit her.
I knew all the tricks, many of them, she never discovered...
poor thing.
The thing is not to say a word.
The Creature went into orbit around a horrid brat named Steffie. Obnoxious Mother
some Belgium female who thought she was better than everyone else, and tried
to become my friend.
Anyway, Steffie was 9, had this horrible show off birthday party where she publically
snubbed my Creature. I pretended I didn't see...because you know what happens
when Mama says;
"I don't want you to play with that awful Steffie."
----Steffie, ya know what my mother said?-----
So I didn't say a word. If my child was so stupid as not to see this other
child using her, hey...
Anyway during the year there were a number of invitations from Steffie's
mother for my child to sleep over, to spend the weekend, which I didn't
bother to transmit.
Steffie's 10th birth day party.
So I say to the Creature; "Steffie's party is Saturday..."
She looks at me...
"YOu're not going."
And then I drop the bomb of the snubbing I saw a year ago.
"Mama I didn't know you saw it..."
"I'm the Mother. I see everything."
And then I went into lecture #142; How not to let people use you.
My favourite tho' was the 'going to the library to study' on Saturday.
So she leaves at 10 to take the bus to the library.
I get on the motorcycle about 10:30. I reach just in time to see her
and her friends walking up the road. I stop.
"The library is behind you." I say.

I'm a member of one other and post heaps on there. I don't know if I'd find time to be a member of that many forums and manage to keep up with them and everything else! Good on you though hehe.
Things get heated a little on the other, but so long as there's no name-calling or anything of the likes, there's nothing wrong with a healthy, heated debate :)
