parallel park? :hehe:
Do you do them all the time or do you try to avoid doing them at all?
As most of you know, Cal is in the process of learning to drive. Today we parked an assortment of vehicles around the yard so that he could practice his parking. I decided to jump in my car and have a go at a parallel park as I can't remember the last time I had to do one. I was very pleased that I was able to nail it first time..I would have been a little red-faced if Cal was watching and I couldn't pull it off...LMAO
My standard line is, "I am a fantastic driver..I just can't park!" LMAO
How about you?

My last proper one I did was 1997.....when I got my licence. LMAO
Fortunately there is little need to be able to do them down here unless I go into the city....even then usually I will catch a bus or train anyway. I do remember one time going to Griffith and having to do a parallel park. It took me about ten minutes to do it and held up a heap of traffic but I got it at least in the lines, even if it wasn't straight. :hehe:

My daughter just got her L's the other day( L for LunaticLMAO) She'll be 18 in July so has left it longer than most of her friends. I'm really not looking forward to teaching her to drive:blink: let alone parallel park:blink:

In NSW you go from learners to p's to silver to gold licence...

Holly, you go from your P's to a full licence. You can either choose a Silver - valid for 1 year or Gold - valid for 5 years once you get to it.
Silver and Gold are not ranked! Just depends on how much you want to pay!
As for parrallel parking, do them all the time. I have good days and I have shockers....

Did one the other night near Hornsby Westfield, try to avoid them if I can, much better at just reversing into a spot etc
I have a gold licence, though I am not going to tell you how many points are still on it. :hehe:
I would rather parallel park than forward park into a tight left hand roadside parking space!! Doesn't work well if you're in traffic and the car behind you is up your bum before you can reverse in tho!
Cherie - Silver and Gold Licences - i've never heard of them either? RAC have different coloured cards, bronze, silver, gold depending on how long a member of their Breakdown Service. But in licencing..and i think it's uniform throughout Aus, there are different classes ie C Class for Car and LR =Light Rigid, MR =Medium Rigid, HR =Heavy Rigid etc!

I do quite regularly. I avoided it for a long time but I am pretty confident at doing it now.
A friend once told me that when she was doing her test she wasn't made to Parallel Park as the tester said to her that if she can't do it she will just find somewhere else to park so he wasn't going to waste any time by seeing if she could do it

Rach don't laugh but that's what the tester said to John when he went for his.....his test was at 3pm so really busy around school zones and they ran out of time. So the tester just said that he would pass him because it's not like it's an essential driving skill LMAO
And by that, I took it to mean that the tester didn't do them himself :P
gold isn't just dependent on how much a person wants to pay.. i could not have a gold licence again for a (forgotten) amount of time after i lost mine one time.. you have to be a good girl (or boy) if you wnat the gold licence..
i can park. anywhere. but it may not always be pretty! LMAO
Can't remember how long it's been.
I avoid them like the plague and will drive past a spot to find one where there are a couple empty and I can drive straight in. :hehe:

Hi ladies :waves:
Must admit I have issues with parallel parking. I can take ages to get into a spot. Going in then back out then in again. People passing by as I attempt to parallel park must think I'm a nut LMAO

I do them all the time (can even do it with one hand :P)
Majority of them is when I am picking the boys up from school or parking outside work - other than that, most of the rest of the parking around here is all on an angle :)

i can do them in the smaller car, but can not do it in the 4WD no way i can barely park the damm 4WD in a normal spot let alone a parrell lol

no wonder men always criticize the way us women drive! :hehe:
i haven't parallel parked since my driving test and if i tried, i probably couldn't do it..who knows.
DF let me drive today for the first time in almost a year..boy was it weird! :hehe:

That's great you have been driving Kiki..you need to get a little car of your own so that you can come and go when you please...
Is there lots of traffic around your place or do you live out of town a little?

I hate parking. If I'm going somewhere I haven't been before, I worry about the parking situation. Whenever possible I will park away from other cars so I don't have to worry about it and can drive straight into a spot. That said, where we moved to about 16 months ago, I find I often have to do reverse parallels so I'm getting adequate at it (haven't scraped the tires on the kerb for months
The town I grew up in has heaps of reverse 45* angle parking - I really can't do that at all, even when there are no other cars around, I just can't line it up right in the lines.

there's enough trafffic. we're so close to new york that so many people here drive there for work and vice versa..BUT, that's only between 7-9 am and 4-7 pm. but locally it's not bad at all. highways can be bumper to bumper.
naomi-today i scraped the tire against the curb as i was parking..DF has a jeep and that's too big of a car for me to drive since i'm so tiny! :hehe: plus i hate not knowing how close i am to the curb, because of how big his car is..but i managed! :hehe: and laughed at myself. :D
