I heard on the news tonight that singing is no longer part of the curriculum in Queensland...how sad is that :(

I remember really enjoying having singing as part of the school day even though I couldn't even carry a tune in a bucket..LMAO

Does your child still do singing at school?

My 2 younger ones sing in there class, music, and they can sing in the choir, they are also pratcising for Anzac Day, the Dokota Trail. My eldest whom is in high school, is in all the productions so he sings, My DH is a singer I can hold a tune as well, and my eldest is a great singer, and the younger ones love to sing.

the kids here sing in school too. they have their little xmas play and then they also have their spring concerts. i loved singing in high school-it was alot of fun, you really clicked with people that enjoyed the same thing you did, and you could also try out for the choir, which sang at amusement parks and all for competitions, which we won, so it was tons of fun.

The music programs in schools are also getting scaled down Trish....which is a little sad to me because if a child had aptitude, the music program allowed them to explore different instruments etc until they find one they liked and were good at. Doing the same kind of thing as an extra curricular activity would work out to be very expensive.

Just ask my mum - 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full size violins for both my sister and myself, plus the piano, two guitars, a keyboard and of course my treasured cornet. :) Personally I think she was relieved when it turned out I couldn't play reeded instruments because I was rather interested in the sax as well :hehe:

Yes it is such a shame isn't it? I guess it also means that now if kids are showing an aptitude for it they will have to pursue it as an after school activity...just one more thing for the poor parents to pay for.
