Is it true that any DVD with any region will play on a PS2?
I've just received an email from someone on ebay (in response to my enquiry) and they say all regions are compatable with PS2. I dont know if they are just trying to make a sale or if they are telling me the truth.
Any ideas anyone?

No. We have a PS2 instead of a DVD player. We can't play all regions on ours but you can buy a 'chip' for it (DH reckons you can get them for 'about $50 in Chinatown' but I don't know if he knows that for a fact or is just guessing). The chip will enable any region.

I know the chip will let you play burnt games and PS2 but apart from that I dont know...
I think I'll just wait for it in our region. I was only going to bid because the box set was cheap. Doesn't turn out too cheap if I've got to spend $50 on a chip and I find out it doesn't work.
Thanks anyway Naomi.:)

Telori, maybe ask at an electronics store how much a chip would cost (if they do it). If they can do it cheap, it might still work out cheaper to buy the DVD from the UK. And if they do it, it should work, or at least be guaranteed.

I think I will look into it afer Easter. I'll miss the ebay auction but I'm sure there will be others. I'll let you know.

The other thing DH said is you can buy regionless (is that right?) DVD players for really cheap now, he thinks as cheap as $60. I know that wouldn't make it worth your while just for the region 2 dvds but if you were thinking of getting a new one anyway, that's an option. (I think most DVD players aren't restricted to regions anymore. We were actually talking about this at home last week).

You can get them  . Our dvd players are all multiregion. I think that is all they sell now & the last one we bought was from K-Mart for $59 (bargain).

My DVD player is only about 2 years old, it's a DVD/Video. And it says in the manual it will only play region 4. I must have got ripped off somewhere cause it wasn't cheap!
We have two PS2's as well so I'd prefer to look into the chip than get another DVD player.
And I dont waste money...I just look out for lotsa bargains...what I dont keep I sell on ebay (hopefully for a profit!). Besides if I only had 1 PS2 I'de never get to play it! LMAO
