I am thinking about getting my MIL a new dressing gown for mothers day. She suffers quite a bit from Hot Flashes (or is that hot flushes? :dk: )
If any of you get them, do you still use a dressing gown? If so, are there any type/fabrics that you would steer away from?
I know that she doesn't use flannelette sheets any more because they get a bit hot for her at times...
I hope this isn't a silly question :hehe:

well its a hard question i think Rachie, i am on HRT so i don't get hot flushes but i know when i was getting them i still wore a winter gown & ripped it off when i got a flush then put it on when the hot flush was gone. it may be something you will have to check out . you may be able to buy one that is'nt too thick

Rach , I m not there yet (waiting with anticipation) but I have heard my friends say when they get these hot flashes they are very cold afterwards the hot moment is gone like a flash, So I guess they will still need a warm dressing gown for the cold moments

I still use a very light synthetic dressing gown, with just a sash (no buttons or zips) but then I don't get the STV's anymore....I seem to remember that it was easy to undo or remove and just as easy and quick to replace.

Don't think it matters Rach, just get a nice warm one.
Whatever it's made of, it's going on and coming off a hundred times a day no matter what.LMAO
Been there done that, so know how your MIL is feeling.

OK cool, thanks everyone for the input :) It will give me something to think about when I am out looking at the dressing gowns on Saturday :)

Could always go for a waffle weave type one.....they generally keep the warmth in when you want it and let it out when you don't. :)

That's what mum's spare one is like and you can wear it middle of summer or middle of winter - either way it is just right

I remember when my Mum had Hot flushes she would just undo it tehn when it passed she would do it up again, I think a blanket would be better LOL

I am just starting perimenopause,I have a soft towelling gown with a tie belt, its warm enough without being too hot,and heavy and easy to get on and off numerous times.
