How many kids (furry kind too) do you have, how old, what are their names and how did you choose their names?

Son - Lee Matthew 23 Picked his name out of the birth notices in the newspaper.

Daughter - Erin Jayne 21 Read a book about a girl named Erin growing up in Ireland, also Happy Days, Erin Moran, and Erin from The Waltons  Had a very short surname so tried to lengthen her name by adding a y in Jayne LOL

Brown Burmese - Bizkit 3 Erin picked his name after her then favoutite band Limp Bizkit

Blue Burmese - Sao 3 Asked family what name would go with Bizkit (meaning another band) Hubby promptly said Sao LOL

Red Burmese - Scarlett 2 Couldn't think of a nice biscuit name to complete the theme :(

Golden Retriever - Harry 2 Already named by previous owners

Children...

Holly Freida: 23 months. I just liked the name. I can't stand Freida, but in my post natal haze I stupidly allowed Andy to give her that name after his grandmother. I still regret giving her that name, it's awful.

Matthew Leigh: 13 weeks. I couldn't think of anything else to name him. His middle name is the name of my late maternal grandfather. Andy wanted it to be Walter after his grandfather but I told him no way...you've already had one of the kids named after a grandparent it's my turn now.

Cats...

Podge: 10 years. Black DSH. He was fat as a kitten & the name just stuck.

Suni: 7 years. Chocolate Burmese. Hubby named him.

Misha: 6 years. Blue Burmese. I liked the name Misha.

Mitzy: 8 years. Lilac Burmese. Previous owner named her.

Annie: 4 years. Lilac Siamese. Annie got the name because she was my anniversary present.

Our son

Hugo Chifley - 6 months old: we couldn't come up with a boys name at all and Hugo was suggested to me when I was about 35 weeks pregnant. I liked it and suggested it to DH, who 'focus -grouped' it in his office  (I know!) and pronounced it good. Chifley is after Benjamin Chifley, former PM and wartime treasurer of Australia who did some good stuff for the Australian economy back then (light on the hill and all that stuff) (he also did some not so good things, too!). Like Julia, Simon suggested Chifley to me in the post natal haze and we needed to get his passport ASAP (travelled when he was 4 weeks old) so I agreed, then thought "what have I done??" but now I really like it.

Our cats

Nikolai is a nearly 3 year old russian blue, and we thought this was a suitably russian name. It's shortened to Nik most of the time.

Barnabas is a just over 2 year old lilac burmese, and we just liked the name - like Patricia's cat, he gets Barney, too.

Here's a pic of our boys! (http://www.barnikle.com/media/1/20050415-hugonikbarney.gif)

The kids names have no real reason for picking them. Our families all have horrid names. Like Wilga and Inglebert :O So wasn't about to use those LOL. Jake's sister named her son after their Dad, it was tempting :Hehe: just to confuse people even more.

Hayden James 6.. We liked James, but didn't want to use it as a first name, Jimmy :eww:

Emily Louise 4...sounded good LOL

Katelyn Marie 2...as above LOL

Sasha-GSD 5..again, as above

Anastasia 4 Seal point siamese- She came with that name, we tried for a month to think of something else, without luck. So it stuck.

Caesar 4 Blue point-Breeder wanted something on the spot for paper work. God, we needed another month. She suggested it, sounded good. Sort of fitted with a theme.

Alexander 3 Lilac point- Again, another epic naming. Few weeks. I think I was pregnant at the time, and liked the name Alex for a baby, but Jake hated it. And Alexander fitted with the historical theme. His registered name is Homer Jay, and that is thanks to Julia LOL

Misty 3 Lilac Burmese- Came with the name, we did try to change it, without luck. God I wish we had have now LOL

With previous animals such as Honey Chicken (Budgie) Fried Rice (Ferret) I think the kids got off lightly LOL

Caitlyn Marie:Who is 2 today!!*Happy Birthday my sweet*Caitlyn mostly because i loved the name, and also cause of my irish ancestory.Marie after her Oma's middle name(Anna Marie).Being first grandchild on both sides, also brings the family together.

Samson:6 year old desexed male tabby cat, cinnamon in colour with slightly lavender looking 'stripes'. Got him from the RSPCA as a 8 week old kitten, and got told he was attacked by a dog and had slightly hurt his foot, but he was a tough little guy,so thought the name suited. He's the first male cat i've had,and he is just a sweet, affectionate cat!Why aren't females like that?*L*They always seem to be in fights and want to be on thir own!*L*

Cody:5 year old desexed female yellow Labrador/Staffy cross. My very first ever dog!Was never allowed a dog while growing up..always just pet cats, and mum always said that once i was married i could have a dog then,so that's what i did the very next day after coming back from our honeymoon!
Was going to name her Dakota, but Cody sounded better for a dogs name, easier to yell out*L*
She was a pet store brought puppy(and cost enough..boy-o-boy!) Wasn't intentional at first, but just saw these 2 little faces(her and brother)looking out at me,and just had to get her.Was tough deciding whenever to have a male or female though..i wanted both!*l*
Been great having her ..so different from having a cat though!

MissieK,a friend of mine has a 22 month old son named Josiah!!!I though 'Oh,no!You poor kid' when she told me!*L* She is a Baptist,so of course had to give him a weird name!*LOL*She is pregnant again with another boy,so i hope this time she just gives him a 'normal'name

this is an interesting thread. i don't have any children so will go with pets names (and sadly most of them have middle names).

Pippy Bella (seal pt birman). i originally wanted to name her jezebel (bella for short) but nobody else really liked that name so i went on a hunt for another name... went through all my childhood cartoons and came up with Pippy Longstocking and i loved that name.

Pinky & Brain (GP's). we found it hard to find 2 names that went together for boys. they are sort of rodents so they got pinky and brain after the cartoon. their names suit them so well as well... pinky is the silly, outgoing one and brain is the serious one.

Rafferty Ruben (red pt birman). not many ppl know raff's middle name but thats what it is... i found the name had to start with 'R' otherwise it didn't sound right. i really don't know where rafferty came from.. i think i must have been watching TV once and rafferty's rules was mentioned and thought that would be a great name (his registered name is Rafferty Rules).

incidently i love the name josiah.. could get josh for short. i'm not religious either but saw it on an old tombstone and though oh wow what an awesome name.
i will prob never have kids but i have a boys and girls name picked out.
