As most of u all know that My Mum had a fall whilst out walking a few weeks back that resulted in a broken left wrsit ( which needed a opereration to put a plate and screws in ) a broken right arm and a broken right Knee Cap, all from tripping over a raised pavement... WELL if that was not enough she was sent for a bone dentisy test, and I just rang her to get the results, YEP she has Osteoporosis:headh:, she is not Happy, in denial actually, ( she kept saying it was the way I fell so hard) LMAO I said Mum a perosn with good bone dentisy would not break 3 bones and a knee cap.... She muttered somthing under her breath .... Anyhow she does not want to go on Medication, ( as she has been told about the huge side effects) so I was wondering do you or someone you know have Osteoporosis , what treatment do u use do u know about any natural remedies, Poor Darling she is just so Pissed off with it all...

I bet she is.....the only thing I can suggest is some research on the Internet, ask around (as you are doing here) and keep an open mind.
When she arrives at your home, the two of you can discuss the matter.....it's good that these days we have the ability and the wherewithall to find alternatives instead of blindly following a Doctors opinion.....but remember ask questions....if something sounds too good to be true....it usually is.

My nan was diagnosed with Ostio after she broke her hip, and the screws kept falling out of her new hip. I will find out what she is on. (Mind you, poor nan has dementia now, so she may not remember, but I will ask my Uncle). I bet you are glad that your mum will be with you in a couple of days Mes...:)

My mum had the same scenario a few years ago - when she went back recently she was told she doesn't have osteo anymore - can it be reversed? That might make her happier if it can. Don't know about alternatives though.

Sorry to hear that about your mom Mes. I have many patients who are on Fosamax and it seems to be effective, but I understand your mom's concern about the side effects of such medications. I have been asked questions about the possible osteonecrosis of the bone in the jaw and have looked into it. Most of these cases were tied to IV administered bisphosphonates and the occurence is minimal. As far as natural remedies, other than supplements I am not aware of any. Regular weight baring excersize is important.

Sorry that she had that additional news, Mes.

The only thing I know about osteo is preventative measures - weight-bearing exercise and good calcium in the diet.

Fosamax and Actonel. With vitamin D too to help with absorbtion. A common side effect is oespophigitis.(not sure on spelling) THe pros outway the cons! IF she cant take that . Caltrate plus Ostelin for absorption!

Good luck!
