I have a friend that paid over $2,000 for a dinner set 20 years ago. It has been used maybe twice. What's the point of having it?
I use my good stuff as everyday stuff (sure, they're not expensive like that) but at least I use it.
My mother rarely uses her good stuff. Wasn't good stuff made to be enjoyed?
Here's a poll....

we don't have anything like that. well, DF had a few things, but he doesn't use it, so we're going to try to sell it at our garage sale next month. other than that, nothing. a few wine glasses that he had, but i doubt they were expensive at all. my mother has tons of stuff! she uses it for special occasions mostly and holidays. so at least a handful of times a year, but then again i guess it's a good thing that she does use them at all.

You know, we were given a really good cutlery set when we got engaged (19 years ago) and we still haven't taken it out of the box. We were given another one at Christmas (for the new house) and are using that at the moment. And yes Kekka, I stacked them LMAO. I have put our old cutlery set in the bbq pack. Should open the other set one day LOL

I don't have any good stuff, never saw the point in it. :dk:
We have the odds and sods stuff that John had, a 4 person set that I got given when I moved out of home and a 12 person set that I inherited from my grandma. The only stuff we don't use are those ridiculous sized tea cups that came with the 12 person set. They just aren't worth putting a cup of coffee in. :uhno:
None of it is overly special....same goes for the glassware and jumbled up sets of cutlery just chucked in my drawer. :hehe:

I have some things that I don't think of using, other than that I use things if I need to whether they are good or not. Hello Kekka another poll are we bored this weekend?

We dont have any Good dinnerware but i have inherited a royal daulton dinnerset ( 12 person with all the trimmings) and its worth in the rigion of $5000 - $7000. I dont use it even for special occasions because it is nearly impossible to replace the bits if they get damaged and they are in mint condition. (almost)
My aunt, whom i inherited it from, paid $3500 for it nearly 30 years ago and she only used it once. Fish and chips on the good dinner set just because she could. I am missing the tea pot now because she washed it in hot water and it cracked and basically disintergrated.

Way to go Supa!!
similar to ezmay, i have an antique Doulton set including tureens, sandwich plates, serving platters etc, all the trimmings, even eggcups! i never use it. i should sell it? :D but our own dinnerware, stuff we have bought because we liked it a lot, good stuff mostly, these i use all the time. :) ditto the cutlery we bought for ourselves, i threw away all the old stuff... i have some very old glassware too, never use it, some of it is at least as old as the cabinet it sits in.. but other glasses we use, i am no longer using glasses that came with jam or other spreads in them first up at least.. lol..

Yes, I use it all. I am careful with it though. I bought DH a Royal Albert Cup and saucer set for one of his birthdays, and he always uses it. I am hoping it never get broken..:hehe:

I said "other" because what I have isn't exactly classed as good stuff LMAO
We have a plastic picnic set and a Target white dinnerset, mostly we just use the plastic things unless lots of people are over, then the adults use the crockery one and the kids use the plastic. Our cutlery comes from Crazy Clarkes lol.

I use the good stuff everyday. It's nice to feel special everyday over a meal - even if it's cheese on toast!
We also have loads of silverware, some bits and pieces are used always. Other things we pull out for special occassions and Christmas. The only reason being, it's too hard to keep clean after every use!

I said 'other' as well, as all my dinnersets and cutlery aren't expensive.
I do have a couple of bone china cups and saucers that belonged to my grandmothers, but they sit in the cupboard. Its not that they are expensive, its that they are sentimental to me.:)

I only have everyday type crockery. I have a good cutlery set but am waiting til we move until I get it out to use. I have a full 1930's Beautiful cream and gold Johnson brother set with my name on it though which I will inherit one day but it will be displayed only not used as it is a family heirloom now. Although my grandmother doesn't think it is anything special and we should just use it :hehe:

I used a good/old and expensive wine glass last night and the stem broke, I almost cried, far out...I am glueing it, I don't think it is going to work. It belonged to my grandmother, shh don't tell her.
sympathies Alexa.. that's exactly why i don't use mine..

In my case, we've never had really expensive stuff, but we did finally get a really nice 8 serving set of solid, nice dishes. But then we unpacked them and my husband used them. Three years later, we have about 1/2 a set left and odds and ends from other previous sets. Ever hear of a bull in a china shop? Well, I married one! Good thing he's cute!
(chuckle) cute makes up for a lot of things doesn't it? :D

Don't worry I won't tell! I can imagine your disappointment though :(

Yes, we do. We paid a lot for it, so we may as well use it.
I can never understand why someone would buy something aand not use it. If you just want it to look at why not just be happy with looking at the same kind of thing in the store?
