With the summer here, is anyone going to be out at the grill? I always thought grilling was best in the summer time...I love a good turkey burger on the grill. :D

I'm confused, if it's called a barbecue (as it is here), why do you call it grilling?? Why not just call it barbecueing?? :dk:

We use it a lot in the warmer months but I'd rather cook inside for winter....otherwise the food gets too cold as soon as you take it off the BBQ plate. :yes:

I am a bit confused over that one to Stormy, to me the grill is part of the stove to , you can do it any time of year indoors, but BBQ in the summer, certainly don't call Barbecuing, grilling here, Although the outdoor BBQ's are that flash now they do the lot even bake,
enjoy your summer grilling, snowing here so don't think I will be wheeling out the BBQ for sometime yet

We love to barbecue! My husband does the best chicken drumstics, baked potatoe and corn dinner.:yes: I can't wait to have a grill on my porch, once we build one. We added 2000 square feet to the home 3 years ago, had to tear down the old porch and still haven't had a chance to rebuild it.

Don't ask me about the grill/barbercue wording, I'm originally from Europe, but I think it has to do something with the barcbecue sauce? Maybe if you use a barbecue sauce ist's barbecueing, otherwise it's grilling? :dk: I'd like it to be next to the kitchen door so I can just throw a meal on and not worry about it. :)

zen said something about grilling inside, so i got confused myself! :hehe: we also call it a barbeque, but i guess you'd consider certain foods grilled-like chicken?

No, if it's done on a BBQ, I call it barbecued - wouldn't matter what it was. Even a spit roast done on a BBQ is barbecued meat because it's cooked on a BBQ. :dk:

Just to add confusion....what about a Griddle??????

We bbq all year round too, steak or sausages are always bbqed, taste much better (and don't set off the smoke alarm :hehe:).

I thought this thread would be about health grills :dk: which is what we used before we had a bbq (we did it inside ... and it DID set off the smoke alarm LMAO)

Don't like cleaning the Health Grill, hence....don't use it.
Love the BBQ. Never use BBQ sauce, they only want Tomato sauce here.
Griddle ahh yes, only old people remember them I am sure. Loved the Griddle.:D

Love a good barbecue, too cold in Melbourne at the moment but when the weathers fine love all the meats and salads done outside.

I thought a griddle was just a flat hot plate? :dk:

I was looking at one at K-mart when I got the electric frypan but thought with the stuff I cook, it would spill all over the sides and make a big mess. :blush:

Hear hear! I loathed cleaning it. And it always smelt of retained food when it heated up no matter how well it was cleaned. I was so glad to get rid of it when we got the bbq!

I love anything done on the barbecue - mushrooms, capsicum, onion, any kind of meat - although I would love a spit roaster barbecue so that I can do roast joints of meat on it as well. :)

I love BBQing. Missed out last year because we couldn't be bothered to clean the winter's crawly tenants out, but this year I have insisted that Larry do so. Our place gets so unbearably hot inside during the summer, that the thought of having to turn the oven on in that kind of heat again this summer, depresses the hell out of me! So he'd better get to evicting and scrubbing soon :yes: - I don't do bugs :uhno: and it's his turn to scrub the grills - 'cause even now the heat is getting pretty bad inside, even though it's still pretty wet and and a tad chilly outside.

we have a weber kettle BBQ, so we like to roast whole slabs of beef, lamb, pork or chickens.. i love roasting capsicums, eggplant, mushrooms, onions etc with the meats.. and sausages!!! can't have a bbq without snags! altho now we have a new stove, with an oven that actually does what it is supposed to do, the weber might not see as much use.. :)

Heres a yummy recipe for shrimp I want to try...Maybe you ladies will like it too :yes:
I got the recipe from Safeways grilling site (http://Grilling.safeway.com)

Salt and Sugar Shrimp Kabobs

* 1 tbsp. kosher salt
* 2 tbsp. sugar
* 2 lbs. (31 to 40 per lb.) frozen raw, shelled, deveined, tail-on Captain’s Choice Shrimp, thawed, rinsed, and drained
* 10 10-in. metal or wooden skewers
* 1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
* 3 tbsp. Lemon Juice
* 1 1/2 tsp. minced garlic
* Lemon wedges

1. In a large bowl, mix together salt and sugar. Add shrimp and stir to coat evenly. Cover bowl and chill at least 45 minutes or up to 2 hours.

2. If using wooden skewers, put them in a shallow pan with water to cover and soak at least 20 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare a gas or charcoal grill for direct, high heat (you can hold your hand 1 to 2 in. above the cooking grate only 2 to 3 seconds.

3. While grill heats, rinse shrimp well and pat dry. Drain wooden skewers. Thread shrimp in a C shape onto skewers.

4. Lay skewers in a rimmed pan. In a glass measuring cup, combine oil, lemon juice, and garlic; pour over shrimp and turn skewers to coat evenly. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes.

5. Lay shrimp on cooking grate; cover gas grill. Cook, turning occasionally with tongs, until shrimp are bright pink on the outside and opaque but still moist-looking in center of thickest part (cut to test), about 5 minutes.

6. Transfer skewers to a platter. Serve with lemon wedges to squeeze over shrimp.

i think i would rather use fresh green prawns - where i live they are plentiful, if not always cheap... :D take away the garlic, and the sugar, and this sounds wonderful! :)

(btw, we aussies call them prawns, not shrimp)

aahhh yes, I went to a restaurant once and i saw "tiger prawns" on the menu. I loove shrimp but I didn't know what prawns were so I didn't order them. Anyways, my friend got that and when his plate came I saw these huuuge shrimp on his plate and I was a bit jealous. :jump:

A shrimp is what I call a tiny looking prawn - the kind you whack on the end of your hook to catch a fish. :P

I prefer garlic prawns.....the combination of lemon, sugar and garlic sounds just a bit too weird? :dk:

I love steak and snags on the barbie, with loads of onions and smothered with 'dead horse'.

Just the thought of seafood cooked on the same BBQ as meat makes me feel physically ill ...even if it is on a separate grill plate or wrapped in foil...just doesn't sit right with me....:eww: x100

Don't come here for BBQ then Patric....if the BBQ is on, so are the prawns :hehe:

I think it is the whole cross contamination thing that sends my stomach into a flip just at the thought.

Mind you I am not a big seafood fan at the best of times unless it is a nice piece of flake or a cray fresh off the boats...:yes:

that's the thing about BBQs tho.. bacteria don't tend to survive all those flames, and the extreme heat.. :D or so 'they' tell me.. personally, it's one of the reasons we now have a little weber, i can clean every part of it after use.. :)
