I think you should see what our resident health person Barbara has to offer.
Don't look to me for advice. LMAO

I don't bother too much - everyone else around me is so concerned about my health/weight that I don't need to waste any time on it LMAO - sorry, long story and 'you had to be there' :) But seriously, I'm not overly fussed. I spent my whole life being thin and fit and then moved to a farm and had kids and it all disappeared. I'd like to be a bit more fit, but other than that I don't bother.

me, i'm opposite. i'm underweight, so i quit smoking and have been gradually gaining, which is great. my doctor scared me and i knew it was time for me to look after myself. i quit 6 months ago and gained about 20 pounds. :) now that i feel i have a little tummy, i've been doing some crunches and i don't eat healthy, because i'm trying to gain. :hehe: that's pretty much all i do. once in a blue moon i'll take a walk. :)
it took me a long time to come to the realisation if i wanted to live forever, and i do!! :D that it was time to start looking after myself again.. when i was younger, i gymned, i ran, i had an active job, i did not eat junk! but then life changed as it does, and i lost some of my healthier habits...... well, the 'inspiration' now is not to go into old age with a fat unfit body, but to gradually ease myself into aging with a healthy plan.. i woke up at the end of 2006, and realised just how far i had come from that old me, and decided it was time to change.. doesn't mean i can't eat a little chocolate from time to time, or have a cup of coffee... or even a couple of slices of pizza every other month! but in the main, i try to stick to what's good for me.. :) it's pretty easy really, apart from the exercise side of things! lol.. that i have to force myself into most days, but i know it's worth while when i see my brothers.. they can't even pick up something from the floor without grunting and panting, and holding onto something to get back up again, whereas it's not an issue for me, and i'm the oldest... :D the other thing that shocked me into healthier eating, was my cholesterol test late last year... i have managed to get that under control again, just with exercise and better eating habits.. (i'm also 16 kilos lighter than i was at the end of 2006!)

Counting calories has worked well for me. I used the 'Biggest Loser Club' but Calorie King is free and I think it's pretty much the same thing. I've lost 11kg and have four to go. The most important thing I learned was that you have to combine both diet and exercise to lose weight. You can't do one without the other and expect results.
You really have to motivate yourself. You have to want to lose weight and be healthy. I've tried one of those weight loss programs where they supply the food and hated it. I had no freedom, couldn't eat chocolate (I'm a chocoholic as well) and a lot of the food was gross. If you count calories you can still eat everything you want to, it just teaches you about portion size (of course, you do have to have enough protein and carbohydrate, you can't just sit down and eat four meat pies and use up your calories that way). I really like the way I did it, the BLC had the support of the forums and quite a few handy features, but it's around $35/month.

Thanks everyone...
Counting calories sounds like a great plan
I have the thoughts in my mind that I want to be healthier and fit into gorgeous clothes and loose the weight...
But cause I work full time, i only eat what is quick (eg- sandwiches, pasta, sometimes chips but not often....).
I can't really use that as an excuse, and i never end up at the gym even though i pay $40 a month for a membership...
I don't know really. I need to be stricty or something.
I'm only 18 and am in a size 16!!!!!
I was in an abusive relationship for on 2 years, before that I was in a size 12-14, but during that relationship I put on maybe 10 kilos or so...
I need to get back on track!!!

Another note
Most days i don't eat much at all.. I'll have a little breakfast, a sandwich and yoghurt for luchh, and a quick dinner. BUT, other days i'll get home and eat 3 sandwiches for afternoon tea. Is that binge eating? I think they call it
not eating much at all can be just as bad as eating too much.. you've not heard of this? if the body does not get what it needs, it goes into starvation mode, and keeps it's body fat thinking it's not going to get any more.. one has to eat to lose weight.. but take hold of those binge eating urges! :)

Yeah i've heard of that
I don't leave myself hungry ever, lol.
My average brekkie, lunch & dinner always keeps me full. I think its just the type of food. If I ate fresh fruit etc i would get different nutrition to cereal or that UP&GO sanitarium drink..
ahh i see... good! i am glad you know about this.. i would be the worst person in the world to be telling anyone about eating habits tho.. it's a constant battle isn't it?

I can be so up and down.
I'll be really good for a month...
About 3 months ago i was on a diet, walking for 45 mins per day and going to the gym for 30 mins at Curves everyday (no gym on the weekend tho)
That lasted about a month until i went full time in my job lol
i hate diets... i like a 'healthy eating plan' :D and nothing works fast enough of course.. but those diets that do work fast are not good for a person long term.. i lost lots of kilos, but it was slow, and gradual.. and is still a work in progress! i forgive myself the lapses, and just keep on with my overall plan... i really think exercise is the key, and just staying away from all the bad stuff.. :)

yeah very true
How do you keep on going?? Like how do you make sure your strict with it?
i'm not so strict... i'm only human. :) but i want what you said too.. i want to fit into nicer clothes, i want to be healthier.. and i keep these things in mind. if you are paying for a gym membership, make yourself go to the gym!! i know it's hard when a person is working full time to get to the gym, make it a habit tho, on your way home maybe? even if some nights all you do is walk for 30 minutes on a treadmill, or use a bike.. just do something! i like it once i start, and i feel good afterwards.. it's all too easy to just skip the exercise.. work on the exercise thing first, and not binge eating, and see how it goes perhaps?
just adding... i re-read, you are going to Curves i see.. so you won't have the access to a treadmill or bike.. but do their 30 min thing.. i didn't like Curves, i paid $50 a month for a real gym, there was so much more to be had for my money.. but use that membership! :)

i need to replace my existing habits with better ones!
and keep searching for excuses or reasons why things are the way they are too
Curves is hard to stick too, it gets repetitive I think

Use that gym membership! If you don't like it, maybe you can cancel and join a new gym? (depending on your contract of course).
White bread and pasta are full of calories. You don't want to eat too much of either.
