MANY more "intellectually elite" people identify themselves as atheists rather than followers of religion, according to a new study.

Funny enough, I knew some rather brilliant minds back at uni and they generally did believe in God...

Oh what a bunch of hooey! I'm totally non-religious and Mensa ain't knocking on my door either. But I have known a number of very intelligent, some even genius level, who devout followers of one faith or another. Phooey on these "experts" I say!
i really fail to see why anyone is still taken in by religions.. intelligent or not.. but heck, all a person needs, is to be bright enough to read.... or even to watch tv.. but i know, faith never takes heed of facts, never looks at history, and if it does, is still wearing those religious blinkers... goodonya if you still want to believe in this stuff.

Personally I am the least "religious" person I know, BUT I also feel that we should respect the right of everyone to worship to and believe in whatever God they prescribe too.
Luckily we live in a part of the world where we are not (or should not be) judged or belittled for our religious beliefs.

Actually, the 'brilliant' minds I know (or knew) that believed in God actually said that the more you knew, the more you realised there has to be something else. In particular, these were scientists and mathemeticians - the most logical of the lot :)

I don't subscribe to standard religion but I do believe in a higher power....and whether or not you choose to have faith has nothing whatsoever to do with your IQ. :uhno:
I do believe in reincarnation (which is part of a religion after all) and I believe that there are people who have been here before. I don't consider myself any less intelligent because of that belief. :)

I believe in God. And I think I am reasonably intelligent.

I consider myself quite bright and don't believe in organised religion. But I do believe in a higher power and respect a persons right to believe in a religion as long as they don't expect me to believe in it too or try to judge me for not believeing in one.
I'm generally of the opinion that religion has caused more harm than good in the world but then again can the human race really be trusted to just plod along without some guidance, sometimes I wonder?.
