View Full Version : Our recliners have died

One of our recliners has been stuffed for about a year. A bolt that held up the supporting brace for the cushion sheared off and the seat basically collapsed to one side. We have been making do with it for ages because the other recliner was still ok...so we just shoved a heap of blankets into the seat area so that it is comfortable to sit on. :hehe:

Well last night the other recliner lost its support as well and while I can sit in it normally, I can't recline it. :( So I figure it is well and truly time to bin them both. But I'm not sure whether to spend the money on a new lounge suite or get some other alternative. The 3 seater sofa is still perfectly fine so I'm thinking that maybe I will just get two big beanbag chairs to replace the recliners until such times as we are prepared to get a new lounge suite. :)

I do have some concerns though that I will come home one day and find the little beans strewn throughout the house. :O

oh god no Stormy imagine the fun your fur babies will have when you are out :headh:
Can you not get two new recliners to match in with your sofa, especially if the sofa is still good

I would if our sofa was a plain material....but John bought it before we met each other and it is a disgusting floral print material. :eww: I'm actually looking forward to it snuffing too so I can get a tasteful looking lounge suite. :hehe:

I was hoping the cats might just sleep in the chairs but it might be wishful thinking hey. :P

I can just imagine the snow storm you would be greeted with when you got home Kay...:hehe:

Mind you the safety side of the beans does worry me though :(

:P

It will never snuff it Stormy, will go for ever  so get two plain recliners that maybe go with one of the colours in the floral sofa, then when sofa dies match it a new one to your recliners.

god I remember on the farm buying this beautiful pink floral lounge suite, pink curtains and white carpet :P what the hell makes us do that

You could get a big lounge wuite that has a couple of recliners built into it, that way, you can get rid of the old lounge, and still have your recliners:)

i agree with lucyloo.

OR, maybe just get a couple recliners or nice reading chairs for the living room from garage sales or something?
i remember my bean bag breaking..gosh, my mom was pretty upset! :hehe: richie had a HUGE stuffed animal in his room that had all the beans in it and the seam tore and it was all over his room. once in awhile when i sweep his room, i'll find a few of them still. it's like they never go away!

Kiki...I think they breed :hehe:

You can get liners to go inside the bags to contain the beans.....they're made of polyurethane or something which is resistant to rips/tears even if the outside bag gets a tear. I was thinking that I would get ones made out of denim or another fairly sturdy fabric just in case they have a scratch at them. Apart from the beans spilling, I don't know what other safety issue there would be? :dk:

Hey Stormy that lounge will probably outlast both of you, mum still has her original lounge she got when she got married 40 years ago, it won't die and dad won't get rid of it until it does.

I really didn't want to hear that Tina....I was hoping that it would go to sofa heaven of its own accord because I hate chucking stuff out that is perfectly good. Even hideous lounge suites. :hehe:

John is really reluctant to get a new lounge suite mainly because Mojo enjoys using our current lounge suite as a scratching post. I keep trying to tell him it is because it is so ugly but he won't have a bar of it. :P

Warning, cats will take over bean bag chairs and not share. Oh the looks you will get should have the gall to try sitting in them!

Kay I remember reading warnings about never placing babies or young children to sleep on a beanbag...due to the risk of suffocation. One would hope that a moggie would have enough sense to not fall asleep in an unsafe position..but these are cats we are talking about...:hehe: I think small, lightweight ones would be fine (like pet bed ones) but I am thinking some of the heavy, chair ones could trap a small animal under?

My cats fall asleep in a position that defies logic....so point taken. :hehe:

Will have a look online for recliners....see how much financial pain we are in for. :headh:

I only wished that worked for Mojo. :argh:

I've tried loud noises, squirting with a water pistol, ignoring the bad behaviour, rewarding the good behaviour and yet he continues to go to town on it. He also scratches the scratching posts we have all over the place too AND the log we have out in the cat park. Yet the reading chairs we have in the back of the dining/kitchen area he has never ever touched and he doesn't scratch at the carpet or the bed either. :dk:

I think he's just helping me get a new lounge suite and speeding up the rate of decay. LMAO

they have smaller bean bags for kids, maybe pick up one of those for the cats and then before going to bed, maybe put the adult one in a closet or something? in case the cat sinks in it..
DF's parents have had the same couch for YEARS. the thing is falling apart. mind you, it's really comfy all broken in, but parts are ripping. it's a disgrace. i would LOVE to buy them another one.

The cats already have two pet beds to sleep on plus anywhere else that takes their fancy. If I buy two beanbags as chairs, they would be the large size to accommodate adult humans. There's no point getting child size ones.....as there are no children here.

I think I'll just get two new recliners and a cover for the disgustingly horrible sofa. Probably won't be any time soon though since I'm a bit fussy when it comes to furniture. :)
