this is a bit like my other post but...
Do you find if you sleep to much it makes you much more tired than getting less sleep?
I can have 4 hours sleep and perform better the next day than if I have 9 hours.
What do you think? How much sleep makes you feel good?

I find about 7 or 8 hours does me well, less than 6 and I feel like death warmed up, can't sleep more than 9 as I feel very lethargic.

7-8 is my optimum, preferably in one block but I need to get at least 3 hours in a block or it doesn't matter how much I get in accumulation, if it's only in blocks of a couple of hours I feel like rubbish.
Any more than 9-10 hours and I've had too much.
If I sleep during the day, anything longer than about 40 minutes makes me groggy.

If I'm working a quick change shift, I'm lucky to get 3-4hrs. Consequently the next day I usually sleep 12hrs because I'm exhausted and need to recoup. All up it balances out to an average of 7-8hrs a night. :dk:
There is an interesting article on the effects of regular sleep deprivation here (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/08/AR2005100801405.html).

From my mid-teens until my collapse six years ago, I was only able to sleep 2 to 4 hours a night, if at all, for weeks on end and it certainly did contribute to my current health issues. It does catch up to you if it goes on for enough years. Lack of sleep can literally destroy entire lives in every aspect and even change your personality. Now I still don't get much even with medication, but as I can't work anymore I can spend entire days in bed recovering from a bad spell of insomnia. When I was working, this just wasn't possible and for a lot of years I just made sure I never stopped moving because I knew that if I did, I would just fall completely apart. I've also finally learned to put my own needs before that of everyone else. I was brought up/programmed to believe that if you were a girl in my family, your needs always came last. It wasn't deliberate and I know my mother did not intend that to be the message, but I watched her do that, even when it destroyed her health, my entire life so I became everyone's doormat and withdrawal only bank automatically.
Too much sleep can also be bad for you and if it happens a lot, it's just as big of a health red flag as too little is. This particular issue is near and dear to my heart, so I'm begging all of you -please, please, puuullllleeeeeaaazzzz deal with any sleep problems you may have as soon as possible. It can literally mean you life. Sorry if I got too serious here....

I seriously cannot function without my 7 to 8 hours a night. When the kids were little and I was up and down all night I was a bitch on 2 legs and my depression was off the scale so now I make sure I get my sleep and if I don't the whole house hears about it. :)

untill we moved back to NSW 6 yrs ago i was always happy to have 3 hours & then up & at it, i loved being awake but these days i don't care about getting up so if i sleep longer thats fine but, i do think too much sleep is worse then not enough

Huh! Chance would be a fine thing. I must admit that I am sleeping a little better lately (due to a medication change..but even now I can start to feel its' efficacy waning each night :( ) What annoys me is that I can only manage to sleep in small blocks of maybe 1-2 hours at a time before the pain and stiffness wakes me up and forces me to move until I find a comfortable position again.
I think my whole life would be transformed if I slept 8 hours straight..hell I forget what that feels like :(

I honestly have never noticed sleep affecting me either way, I can go out to party's till 5 in the morning or go to bed at 9 at night and feel the same either way the next day, think I am a night owl though
I didn't know there was such thing as to much sleep, wouldn't your body just wake when it's had enough and if you over slept wouldn't that because your body needed it. I did read an article once that you can never catch up on lost sleep

I need at least 7- 8 hours, otherwise I am a cranky person by that afternoon. I can cope with the wake ups through the night, but I catch up the next night. When I can't sleep for a few nights in a row, I am a nightmare. Very cranky person....:D:

i'm really not so sure how much sleep i do need..sometimes it's 5 or 6 hours, and others it's 8 or 9. i always wake up tired though, so i don't know. but about an hour later i'm finally feeling more awake, so i usually just wait it out. once in a blue moon i'll take naps, but i've been trying not to do that now, since i start work in a few weeks and i don't want to be tired during my work hours!
