I have to agree with what is said about its food chain, wonder what kind of nature one would have, does appear to have a slightly mean look about it, imagine the poor little domestic cat getting into a fight with one of those :headh:

they do look a bit scarey, but they're beautiful! :)

I actually wouldn't want a bigger one....when Mojo gets cranky about having his nails done or getting wormed, he is scary enough even with his paltry 5kg of weight behind him. Imagine if one of those got pissy at you.

Oh I love the look on it's face - It's so cool. Not sure I'd have one though - it was bad enough when Nudge used to sleep on our bed and we couldn't move - I'd have to sleep on the floor if I got one of those :hehe:

I think a pooch would think twice about taking it on, that's for sure. :)

These animals pose a huge threat to our native animals. They should not be allowed into the country! Our ecosystem in Australia cannot handle these animals.
Here's a petition for those interested - http://www.gopetition.com.au/petitions/savannah-cats.html

I have to agree, Spring. One of the joys of walking in the bush is looking for animal tracks and we see lots of wallaby, monitor & bobtail lizard, bird and sometimes bilby tracks crossing the path we use. And also, unfortunately, kitty tracks.
I love cats but they are very efficient hunters. Keep them indoors at night (they get used to it!) ... and tie up your dogs too if they sleep outside.
P.S. I am not inferring that the ladies who have admired the supercat are negligent, because I am quite certain - by the way you talk about your pets - that you are thoughtful and responsible carers!

I don't think it belongs here either and I've already signed the petition to prevent them being introduced here. Just look at the number of feral/stray cats we have. If we (and by we, I mean ALL Australians, not just AFW members) were all responsible pet owners, there wouldn't be any such thing as a feral or stray cat. :brow:

Normal domestic cats breeding in the wild become quite large after a few generations, my hubby has spent a bit of time in the bush and has seen the damage feral cats do, some of them are massive, I'm a cat lover but I am opposed to importing these animals unless they are desexed, imagine the damage if they were to get loose.
I also signed the petition.

Cats hunt during the day, not just at night. They should be kept inside 24/7. If you start as soon as you get them, they don't know any different. And think of it in terms of protecting your cat if you aren't worried about natives. There are cars, and a lot of people who hate cats enough to kill them.
For these reasons, the hybrid cats would be sold on the provision they were kept inside 24/7, not just at night. Of course, this would be difficult to achieve at the outset, so it would be even more difficult in ten years time when a lot have been bred and prices have dropped.
Thanks for signing the petition guys :) I think this one will make a difference.

Zen, I thought they looked great too.
However, I do have to agree with some of the other girls. They would do a lot of damage and like Spring said, while you have to sign a stat dec saying you will keep the cat indoors 24/7, how is this going to be policed really?

I'd have one in a flash.....but only if it was desexed, kept indoors and loved to within an inch of it's life.
I also think that they should NOT be introduced to Australlia and there is ample evidence in our past history of the damage to our natural flora and fauna to support that.
