I haven't finished it and don't intend to.....the first third of the book bored me to tears, I didn't get past where he goes to his shrink and meets the lady psychologist/psychiatrist and tries to chat her up. :dk:

Oh what a shame Stormy - I actually really enjoyed it!

Just wasn't my cup of tea I guess. :dk:

I just felt it took ages to get moving....and then when it did, it just seemed to stagnate. I think if I tried to read it another time, I would probably have enjoyed it a lot more. :)

It wasn't as snazzy as some of latest novels - which was a shame.

Anyway, I'll wait to see what Zen thought. She's a crime lover.

i have just started reading this book.. i know! hang my head in shame... lol! but i figured if we had the whole month to read it, then i would wait for near the end of the month so it was still fresh in my mind for the discussion.. i read fast.. :)

so i have just started, and i think i like it so far.. it started out like many of the action movies i watch, so it was easy for me to see it all happen in my mind.. it has grabbed my attention now, so i'll give in to it and read... :) give me a couple of days...

i keep thinking of the movie of the same name with Bruce Willis in it.. :)

I'm with Kay I am afraid...did absolutely nothing for me except bore me to tears...very rarely do I consider reading a waste of time but this is several hours of my life that I wish I could get back, rewind and read something else :hehe:

That's why I quit it a third of the way in.....I even tried skimming to the bits that I would find interesting and I ended up skimming the rest of the book.

nearly half way through now, still waiting for some answers, have more questions... :) but i think i have figured a couple of things out already... enjoying it, and glad i have more by this author i haven't read yet..

edit: could some moderator add a -spoiler alert- to this thread title perhaps... once i start discussing in earnest, might give away the plot entirely...

what i really should do is get a library card and just borrow it. the thing with me is that i LOVE buying books and most of the time i don't read it over again or i end up buying it and i don't really like it.

made it to page 419, then husband came home early, and that was that... funny thing is, now i've made it to the horse farm, i remember i have read it before after all.. at least, i remember the farm bit clearly... still don't remember the end, which is good... maybe i have read the rest of this author's books too.. :) was always my plan, to keep all of my books till i was old and couldn't remember them, so i would have heaps to read in my retirement.. looks like that time has come already.. :D

will probably finish this today, altho i have a few things i need to do now i am feeling healthy again!

finished the book... i liked it! wow.. couldn't read fast enough near the end! lol.. i think this book would make a great action flick! had a couple of things figured out.. can we go with the spoilers now? the only thing i'd be negative about would be the neatness of the ending, everything came together almost too well.. KWIM?

I'm surprised you were able to stay awake long enough to finish it..I was hardly able to...

Lets just say it was far from being the most riveting book I have ever picked up....:hehe:

well.. i guess it comes down to personal taste.. i would rather read lots of this stuff than any one romantic fiction like that Stockmen book we read last time.. now that for me was a complete waste of time! Last Man Standing kept me turning pages to find out what happened next, i like books that do that no matter the genre..

i don't suppose you like a lot of action movies either?

susiq - you said before this was not the best of Baldacci.. i take it you have read more of his stuff? what is the best one you have read? i have a few more of his i may, or may not have read, i'll have to have another look at them now..

Zen, gald you liked it! I'm with you on the Stockman - those romantic stories don't hold my interest. But like you said it all comes down to personal taste.

Yes, the last couple of chapters were page turners but once he revealed where Kevin was hiding I started figuring it out. I did think for a while there though it was Billy rather than Gwen.

Mind you, I did have a chuckle about the fate of Ernest B Free. I was wondering how he was going to work in the taxidermy angle.

I did find some of the gun detail a bit over the top at the beginning though. I also tune out a bit when I'm watching action movies if they go into too much detail with the weapons etc, so no difference there LOL!

I totally agree with you on the ending. It was all a bit too neat. As for Web driving off into the sunset, well I was a little perplexed after the wrapping up of the rest of the story.

I have read a couple of his other stories but the one I really liked was Hour Game. I found it amusing in places and the main character has a partner so that made a difference.

He does a new one out at the moment called The Whole Truth.

I've read about a 1/4 of it I'm not a big one on action books of that genre, it's not bad but I'm not loving it, I can tell because if I love a book I can't put it down til I've just about finished and I haven't done it with this one, but it might get better and grab me, I prefer sci/fi or sci/fantasy so it's all a matter of taste, but I will read any good book, will keep at it.

I guess it's just a matter of personal taste....but I found it unusual that I love Matthew Reilly's books and they are action genre yet this one I felt very blah about. This one just didn't seem to be in the same league for me? :dk:

Thanks Stormy, I'll keep an eye for Matthew Reilly on my next book shopping spree.

I have a few to keep me going at the moment but they're mainly chick lit. Always like some chick lit after the crime novels!

Will you set up a new post for next month's book?
