It seems a common theme for movie stars to try and tread the boards on broadway or in the west end and more often then not they just cant do it. It is definitely a different genre for them and unless they really do have a strong presence without the camera being up close and personal then they fall short. I have seen Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett (twice) and Liam Neeson on stage and they were all fabulous but I also saw Joseph Fiennes on stage (who I love - younger brother to Ralph) and he was terrible.
Julia Roberts is currently doing a play called Three Days of Rain on Broadway and the production is getting some really bad reviews. The New York Times even said "Hated the play. To be sadly honest, even hated her."
I am sure the audience will enjoy seeing Julia on the stage as it will be a novelty for them but sometimes I think they should just leave it to the more qualified actors and they should concentrate on what they do best; especially when ticket prices for theatre these days is astronomical.
