Another train accident

Not far from us yesterday there was another train collision with a truck at a crossing with no lights or beams. Unforunately the driver & conductor died.

It really saddens me that they can't afford to put lights in at least so these things don't happen.

I have been on a train when this has happened. The driver didn't die, but the person they hit did. Was not a nice experience. Quite scary and very sad!

Very similar problem in our little town with no boom gates at crossing just red lights.

Very sad that people have to die before changes are finally made.

I am so sorry to hear about that.
The country town that I came from originally had a crossing like that. I don't know how many people have been killed there.

Sorry for you being on the train at the time. That would have been awful!

That's horrible, sounds like the whole country needs a railway upgrade, alot of accidents happen in the small town that I originaly come from, no lights or gate just signs that are hard to see, especially if not local.

We just have lights here too I think, even in town like smack dab in the middle of town there are two train track section thingys. I dont think they get used so much now, well I know one does down near queens park, the mary ann steam train does ride thingys. I don't there's been any major accidents here but Maryborough is well known for the trains that have been made here.

In town we have lights & the boom gates but some of the back roads having nothing but a sign, not even lights. It's very dangerous.

We dont have a problem with trains unless its cane cutting season. Then it's the cane trains, we have ads plastered everywhere to 'Beware of the Cane Trains'. Most people think they are nothing 'cause they are smaller than an actual train and so they try to race across the crossing before they get there. The damage is the same whether they are cane trains or big ones.

And the cane trains dont require gates or lights just give way signs...its stupid.

i know what you mean about the cane trains, we lived near bundaberg and when the cane season is on you really have to be careful, they may be smaller but they can still pack a punch. we hav a lot of train accidents close by to us, there are boom gates and bells and lights, the reason for most of the accidents is that people try and get around the booms to get through, very impatient people around here, mostly young guys. my hubby used to work on the stations and he saw a lot of people jump in front of trains, and he still remembers them. i hate trains..

There is a crossing near us with lights, gates, and pedestrian gates, and it's amazing the number of people who jump the gates to run across - it's an accident waiting to happen :(

I'm glad they stopped the cane trains here. To get the kids to school i had to drive over a bridge that in cane season became very dangerous. It had lights but no gates, the traffic would stop if the lights flashed, and futher down the rod the trains crossed. But the lights didn't always work or tourists wouldn't see the lights flash, they were not very prominit. Even the train drivers wouldn't always wait for the lights to start.
