View Full Version : caffeine headaches
Ok I have made a decision I need to reduce the amount of diet coke I drink drastically BUT I am worried about caffeine headaches how can I counteract them without panadol (makes me drowsy) or other caffeine laden drinks?
Anyone gone through caffeine withdrawl that can give me any advice PLEASE?

Supa, I drink a fair amount of coffee, if I was going through withdrawal, I would just take a couple of panadol. But honestly , I wouldn't touch diet coke..I heard it was bad for you.
Hope you get through it ok.

Is there really enough in DC to give you a headache? I've had caffeine withdrawal giving up coffee but it didn't bother me when I gave up diet coke (but I drink a LOT of coffee). I'd try drinking a lot of water and maybe a multi-vitamin, have panadol if you need to, it shouldn't last too long.
edit - sorry, not panadol but maybe nurofen or if you're ok with aspirin, try that.

Oh yes good idea with the water Naomi :)
Become addicted to sugar... then when you get a headache you can pop a lolly and be all Yay~!

Nurofen is what I would try, I also think slowly doing it would help, ie, if you have 8 drinks a day, for the next few days have only 7, then a few days later 6 etc and slowly come down to the number you only want to consume.

That is what I think of Pepsi, cant stand the stuff, only drink straight normal coke.

Drink plenty of water, but the headaches should disappear after the first couple of days.....it's a small price to pay.

When I last got pregnant (with Angus) I gave up drinking caffine and drank de-caf coffee. I had a dull headache for about 3 days but then it went away but I'm now back on normal coffee and I've cut down from 8-9 cups a day to about 3-4 which is great.
I can't stand coke (of any type) either, besides the high level of sugar thats in it and what that can do your teeth alone, it scares me to think of what else is in it.
Words that I can't pronounce and that have more than 12 letters on any food product label scare me.

its not the caffeine in the diet coke i would be worried about its the artifical sweetner.....these sweetners really really worry me.
although i suppose if you are having them in moderation..but high amounts of them scare the hell out of me.....
i am a type 2 diabetic on medication and i would rather have a small amount real coke than the diet version not because of the taste because of whats in it......
and when i see young children drinking diet drinks it really worries me for the long term effects...that we just dont know...
sorry bit off topic what you asked.....

eek this thread is reminding me of all the reasons I gave diet coke up the first time ... time to go cold turkey again, evil stuff. Unfortunately I'll just have to get used to the taste of the gross chalky water here.

Sorry you want to kick caffeine altogether...only thing I can think of is try and drink more water and take Panadol when you need to. :dk:

How are you going with the wthdrawal?
so far so good drinking lots of water & peeing like I was 9months pregnant LOL. Had a small dc with my lunch yesterday (hungry jacks) but apart from that all good. Have been getting headaches but I think they are more stress related over the house than anything else
