My Dh used to grind his teeth, and he went to the dentist and he made him up some plastic type mouthguard things that cost around $900 at the time. Unclaimable of course :brow:

He only wore them for a little while, but he no longer does it, I don't know why he stopped :dk: His teeth are quite worn from it.

My Miss 3 used to grind hers as well, so maybe it is hereditary (sp)...But I haven't heard her do it for ages now, so fingers crossed she has stopped that little habit. :fx:

Pardon the pun....don't loose sleep over this problem.....lots of children grind their teeth starting when they are Toddlers but they eventually grow out of the habit.
Surely while your DD still has her baby teeth it it no real problem....but if it persists when the adult teeth emerge, then definitely see a Dentist to prevent permanent damage.
Whle she is still coming into your bed, maybe earplugs for yourself are the short term answer.....Bunnings have some good ones for about $2 a packet.

DF grinds his teeth. it's so annoying. it's loud. it gives me goosebumps and he too doesn't realize it. nothing i can do about it, but will have to mention it to the dentist. doubt he'd even wear a mouthguard, even though that would be more for me than for DF! :hehe: at least DF would think so. i don't think these two do that at night, but it must be as annoying for you as it is for me.

Tooth grinding is quite often associated with the daily stress or some concern we have. It can cause problems with the teeth and the jaw and I suggest you see someone about it eg. a dentist or just talk to a Dr about it, there are mouth guards that can be used but a dentist would be better because they will take a cast of the teeth and have it fitted properly. The guards that are sold over counters are for general use and may cause even more problems in a child's mouth.

If she grows out of it great, but I have been grinding my teeth - obviously I'd say due to stress. I told my dentist I was getting pain, he took an xray - nothing wrong. I went back, headaches and lots of pain. I said something is wrong. He put something in my mouth and got me to bite down and then said that I must be grinding my teeth. I knew he was right as soon as he said it as I can feel myself having my teeth locked shut tight when I wake up sometimes. So he showed me these bit mouth things, like a mouth guard, its moulded to the shape of your teeth. He said I really needed to get this and explained its really bad if this continues. Just as Mel said, it can cause big problems.

Just the thought of sleeping with that thing put me off. So I have been trying to relax my mouth and relax full stop. Also I found something that said we should rest out tongue not behind out teeth but rest the tip of the tongue on the top of the mouth just behind the teeth, without touching the teeth. Apparently this also can stop snoring. So I am practising that. So far, now more pain or headaches so its working.

I'd talk to a dentist. If children grow out of it, great. If not, might have to do something because it can cause terrible problems. Good luck with it. I hope its just a temporary thing.

Agreed....our Dentist heated and molded a store bought one for the Bm when he was playing soccer....but that was for a short time one day a week.....if he had needed something like that for extended periods, then I would get it professionally made.

My ex used to do it. It is an awful sound. He had to get a mouth guard as he was getting some damage from it.

I grind and grit my teeth. I often wake up in the middle of the night and it almost feels like my mouth is glued shut I have been gritting my teeth so hard. The wear on my teeth is not quite as bad as it is for those who grind their teeth really hard but I will eventually have to get a mouthgard. I get in trouble for the wear marks on my teeth every time I see the dentist (not that I go often).

I have tried the store brought mouthgards I used to play soccer so we tried using that one... I had bitten clean through it within a week!

When you say grit, eLL85, do you mean like clench? I often have dreams where I am clenching my teeth and I can't stop, sometimes in the dream they crumble out of my head (fairly common dream I've been told). I think that I do actually clench in my sleep but I mustn't have any effects from it cos the dentist never says.
I do tend to clench my teeth if I'm really concentrating on something or am stressed out. Weird habit to do when I'm awake....

Yeah, same sorta thing. I do it if I'm sewing a tricky part or something else that I have to get "just right".

Wouldn't you think that when you are sleeping, you are too relaxed to clench or grind? I think I do it if I have stressful dreams....

Exactly what I ment. And I do it awake and sleeping but when I sleep I must grind them as well. I bite so hard in my sleep I wake up with a sore jaw.

I used to grind my teeth when I gave up smoking.
I wore my back teeth down a bit.
Don't do it anymore.
