....is swine flu cause for concern with you and yours?

I was not particularly worried until BF went and visited his father and step mum. They had only returned from Canada the day before on a flight and they demanded that he got over and visit instead of keeping themselves partially quarantined for a week in case they got sick.

I don't think they are going to get sick but Boy it makes me mad. They Are So Selfish! They don't care about anyone else as long as everyone else is doing exactly what they want them to. They bully BF terribly which is why he went over as soon as they rang. Grr. Mad again now after talking about it!

They are now saying that 1 in 5 Australians will become infected with Swine Flu, but is it even that bad overseas? I still think they are blowing it our of proportion (or at least I hope they are).

I wasn't until I saw how ill some residents were ( BM and myself too) from non related Gastro attacks.....both contracted from the general community.
The Bm and I were talking about this just this morning, as news reports put cases up to 67 (?).....he is of the opinion that too much drama is being pushed by the Media. I tried to tell him that as the infection is airborne....it is too easy to pass on to those so vulnerable.

I heard that it will be 1 in 5 by October. I haven't been worried, but my mother in law is returning from an overseas trip today and is coming to visit. What area of Europe and the Middle East are affected?

Can someone tell me
How sick do you get with Swine Flu is it fatal?
Will it make you sicker than a normal flu?
What is the difference with this flu strain to the normal flu?

Well, when you think about it.....my sis flew in from The States on Monday. I spent Mon and part of Tuesday with them. I go to work next Monday.

(Not saying she's infected, just illustrating how easy it would be to pass it on.) I'm not paranoid at all.

lucyloo
28-05-2009, 02:37 PM
Yes, I see what you mean.

lucyloo
28-05-2009, 03:00 PM

I've been keeping a small bottle of hand sanitiser in my bag..I catch public transport to and from work I work in a supermarket with a large shifting ethnic patronage..it's a bit of a worry..and I'm not the paranoid type..I'm scared about my mum and my grandkids..coming in contact with it.

29-05-2009, 12:47 AM
A little but only because I am about to spend a month overseas and on planes and public tranxport with other tourists etc..

Gin please!
29-05-2009, 10:28 AM
I was surprised to hear on the ABC news (or was it the 7.30 report?)...last night that only 64 ppl out of 4 million in Aus has got it so if you look at it from that angle..it's really not that many.

But I still don't want to be near anyone who has it because I don't want to be number 65..

Because I take public transport to work, mostly, I am a little bit concerned - its so easy to pick up the winter sniffles thanks to PT.

lucyloo
29-05-2009, 01:36 PM
Up to 160 infected people now....

Cherie
29-05-2009, 01:55 PM

Cherie
29-05-2009, 02:24 PM
Just watching the reports..but you have to live..still got to do the shopping, go out etc.

lucyloo
29-05-2009, 03:21 PM
Yes we do Cherie. I am more worried for my youngest, as she cops it anyway, I think teenangers and DH and I would cope......if it happens at all :dk:

lucyloo
29-05-2009, 06:11 PM
167 known cases now...

Stormy
29-05-2009, 06:26 PM
Reports from the public health unit at work indicate that swine flu will affect the people that a normal flu would affect anyway. Immunocompromised, diabetics, the elderly and the very young are at risk from any flu and it's important to remember that in any winter season, people die from the garden variety flu that travels around. It's just that normal flu viruses are not reportable diseases so it is harder for the media to get their hands on statistics.

Practice good hand hygiene. Remember cough etiquette. Take some hand gel in your handbag with you if you are visiting a very busy place populated by tourists. Take measures to protect yourself but don't get paranoid about the whole thing. :2c:

Thanks Stormy

DH wants Glen 20 in at work, so he can spray it all the time...does that stuff really work????

Stormy
29-05-2009, 06:41 PM
I don't know Ness, I'm not a microbiologist. In any case, flu is virus, not bacteria. I'm not sure whether Glen 20 claims to remove both from surfaces and the air. :dk:

lucyloo
29-05-2009, 06:44 PM
I think its more of a surface spray :dk:

I am! The alcohol in Glen20 is what kills the bacteria, and it will damage viruses too.

Take a look at my Dr thread in health and Beauty!!

catnip56
24-06-2009, 05:50 PM
Bloody flu, I had some flu symptoms during the week and made an app for the Dr, was promptly told to wear a mask in case it was the Swine, do you think I could actually get one from anywhere? No..the chemist had run out, I ended up buying industrial type masks from Woolies, how embarrassing that was in the waiting room and to make matters worse I couldn't damn well breath out of the thing...

lucyloo
24-06-2009, 05:52 PM
LMAO sorry Robyn...:hehe:

miss kiki

Rachel
27-06-2009, 01:05 AM
LMAO well catnip that has given me a different perspective on people wearing masks... I always assumed it was to avoid getting swine flu but it is also to avoid giving it to others!
