My Dad has just come down with a case of shingles - on his head! Little blister-like sores and pain all down one side of his head. Particularly cruel for a 96 year-old!
All the doctor can give him is stronger pain meds as other treatments are too dangerous for someone his age.
Poor old sod. I am giving him extra chocolate.:comfort:

Poor fella, shingles are awful. I got them about 5 years ago when my partner and I separated because of the stress. I hope they clear up soon for him.

He had some chocolate rice pudding tonight. I think his pain meds are working as he was quite cheerful - also the fact that he had some attention with the doctor coming and me fussing over him all day, that always perks him up.

I admire what you are doing for your Dad 2 Cat....... I lost my Dad when I was 13 and my Mum had *Shingles* over most of her right eye for about 6 mths and it was very uncomfortable and painful for her as well on top of her respitorary problems. Unfortunately she lost her battle with that disease in January '08.............

I had to go out today and when I came home he was cheerfully eating his lunch. I bought him some Guylian chocs and a new clock for his bedside table - he has a little dementia and can't tell the time on a normal clock now so I got him a digital clock, it is also a talking clock and "says" the time - he was pretty impressed. If I'm out he heats his lunch up in the microwave, we got him one for his 90th birthday as he kept leaving the stove on and burning stuff. You keep coming up with new ways of helping them manage.I try not to do too much for him as that's not good for oldsters.

My mother just got the shingles, she had them on her lower back and hip. Poor thing she was trying to treat herself with anti-histamines thinking it was some kind of heat rash and as soon as she showed it to me I told her to go straight to the doctor who loaded her up with pills and potions.

I got them once when I was only 24, and have'nt had them since. I was going through alot of worry, stress, etc. at the time, and apparently its what caused it. It flared down my right side. What started out as an itch, became very painful.
