its been on our news that the first human trials for swine flu are taking place in aus.
whats the general feeling about it amongst you?
talking to friends and workmates most are not too worried yet,but are a bit concerned about young children and babies.also could there be health issues with a vacine as some ppl claim with the mmr vacine.

The report I heard this morning stated that it was merely the usual Flu vaccine with the "Swine Flu" strain added.
The trials are just to ascertain the strength needed per innoculation.

jus said that they was doing the first human trials over there.
two or three years ago some young men were taking part in a drugs trial and most of them had a severe reaction to whatever it was. most ppl didnt know that you got paid for doing this and when the news broke there was a massive increase in volunters!! LMAOnot sure if i would but credit to those who do.:)

I am extrememly gratefull to all the people who regulary trial new drugs for us to use but me trialing them NO WAY. I am seriously a chicken when it comes to things unknown and even things I do know I treat with suspicion.

I'm not worried but I still don't want to get it. As long as you maintain good hygeine standards you should be fine, wash your hands etc.

One of the girls at work probably has it, she was on a boat with someone who is confirmed and she is now sick but is still coming to work. And she has disgusting hygene. She covered me for my break yesterday and coughed on everything, never covers her mouth. In the headset of the telephone, on the radio handset, keyboard, mouse.

GROSS. I disinfected everything with metho before I sat back down. Lucky I'm not at work today. Yuck Yuck Yuck just thinking of it.

I think the vaccine trials are a step in the right direction....I'm not too worried about the flu though it is in the back of my mind

The good thing about these vaccination is they are not brand new. The flu is an old disease the vaccination has just been modified slightly to cover the current strain so it shouldn't cause any problems but I totally agree the people who go in for medical trials are doing the human race a big service. I wouldn't go in for it when I was healthy but that said if I wasn't healthy cancer etc I think I would be more than willing!

A vaccine has already been developed using a synthetic bases and is being successfully used and sold overseas.

The reason it is not being used here is because the current trials (using a viral base) are govt run.

Another example of beaurocracy working for beaurocracy and not the people.

I'm not concerned about catching 'swine flu' because I have no underlying health conditions and I am fastidious about personal hygiene. What really pisses me off is that people who don't bother about hygiene and this is the very reason why 'swine flu' is spreading.

Did you get a confirmed swab result back Alex? :dk:

Most of the suspected swine flu cases I've come in contact with have come back as Influenza A - which can still make you feel very ordinary and not H1N1 fortunately. :fx: Rest up, if you feel unwell stay home.
