I've had all three shots required for the cervical cancer vaccine and I'm pleased to say I had no ill effects etc! On a parenting forum I was on I was surprised to hear that most moms wouldn't let their daughters have it
as we are all women here 'What are your thoughts'?
my DD is having this done through school she has had 2 of the 4 shot required. I was hesitant about it to start wtih

I would never get this in a million years!
a) it only protects against a few of the strains of genital warts that cause cervical cancer
b) im not in a high risk group of getting genital warts
c) they dont even know how long it protects you form those few strains, so in 5 years any protection might be null and void anyway
d) some girls have died from it!!!!!!!!!

Good God my daughter is halfway through the program she has only one more to get?:brow:
Why would the doc insist she get it she is 26 years old?
Friend had it, all 3 shots, and now has some sort of blood cancer.
The doctor related it exactly back to the gardasil...
You girls have me worried now but Nicoles problems started before she started having the shots?

Not having a daughter, I have honestly never thought about it....or investigated.

Thats a very good question Jen, i have no idea why Docotrs are advocating this, my thinking is just because the government sponsored it and so they get paid to do it which is a pretty sad reality of health care. Your daughters problems before she had it might not be anything to do with it but i wouldnt doubt it could still add to her problems especially if she was in a susceptible state to begin with. I was really concerned when they were talking about making this shot compulsory in schools, crazy stuff. I really like to see the statistical evidence where the numbers saved by this is better than the numbers effected, you know like vaccinate 2million to save 1000 from the cervical cancer they would have died from without this. But if your losing 1000 to adverse reactions than theres no winners and your just trading off one problem for another and paying millions of dollars for it.

Insight on SBS aired a very good discussion on it a while back, i couldnt find the transcript looking just now but it would be worth it to look up if you wanted to find out some more from some of the Doctors involved with it.

I think its like with anything if you look long enough you will find something wrong..
you just need to make an informed decision, i would speak to the GP about your concerns and see what they say.
yes a small amount of people will suffer side effects from what i was told.

So true Melinda, but informed has to go further than the GP, think about the Vitamin D deficiency now, Doctors have been saying to stay out of the sun and slip slop slap for the last 20 years, now they say about 90% of their patients are Vitamin D deficient including themselves and to get out in the Sun and that sunscreen is slip slop crack meaning crack your bones with osteoporosis from the lack of D. But your right Melinda, there pros and cons as with anything, definately need unbiased data to make the choice.

Which, as each side has it's own agenda, means that it makes it very difficult to obtain.
You are damned if you do and damned if you dont!
I have complete faith in my GP gee if you cant trust your doctor with your body who can you trust?:brow:

I cant argue with the trusting the Firies the most....what sensible woman wouldnt swoon and trust the buff hunk of spunk that rescues them from a burning building or free them from a trapped car mehehehe Jen i dont think you can ever fully trust anybody else with your body, even your Doctor, like Melinda says all you can do is make informed decisions and weigh up the pros and cons of anything.

Both my eldest 2 daughters have had this vaccine without any problems. I was very against it to start with but read up a lot about it and found that the good outweighed the bad (in my opinion.)

I've had 2 out of 3. And quite frankly. I would rather be immunised against some of the HPV virus' than none at all.

i did the series of shots too and i haven't experienced any of the symptoms.
i had no problem with it-the shots were alright. my arm was a bit sore, but that's it..only normal.
am thinking of becca getting it done. have mentioned it to DH and will mention it to her doctor when she gets her physical done next month, to see what the doctor thinks about her getting it done.
MIL is totally against it and has sent me links and information through emails, but i already got it done, so in a way it was too late, and either way, i think i would have gotten it done anyway.

I found the second shot alright but the first one hurt. Not tonnes but I was surprised even though I had been warned. My whole arm ached for a good hour after the needle. It still didn't hurt as much as the Typhoid injection I had before I went overseas though... that one made your arm sore for a bloody week.

The third one didn't hurt much, first two killed. It's down to the nurse/doctor, not the actual injection.
Doctors are usually bad at giving needles because they don't do it as often as nurses. Nurses who do it often (the one who did my third one had done over 2000 gardasil injections before mine) are much better at it and it hardly hurts at all. The doctor who did my second was awful! she stabbed it into me! it was over in about one second but it hurt for a day afterwards. Ouch!

My GP never gives out the injections....has a nurse for that as she doesn't want children in particular to associate her with horrible things :hehe:
