View Full Version : Anything to help neck pain?

I get really awful neck pain most days that radiates up into my skull, I've been to my doctor many times for the problem over the last few years but all we have found out is that it is inflamed...that's the hard part as I am asthmatic and can't take anti -inflammatorys! I have tried heat packs, cold packs and massage but nothing works for more than 5-10 mins.
ATM I am relying on pain killers but that isn't a long term option in reality, Does anyone know of anything that might give some relief? I am willing to try anything at this point :brow:

I always have bad neck pain that comes from my shoulders & then travels down my arms but i have Arthritis in my shoulders & neck so not a lot to do to help but i really have found that Tiger Balm is good for easing the tension of it

Have you tried a heat pack? I slept badly and got a sore neck (it lasted for weeks! but was only really bad the first few days). I just wet a cloth nappy and put it in a plastic bag, heated in the microwave then wrapped it in a towel and put it on my neck. (But if you have an actually heat pack, that would be a lot easier LOL).

Aren't cloth nappies just the most useful things :hehe:
Yep tried the heat pack but once I take it off the pain slowly comes back after 10 mins or so.

Tiger balm...Do you get that at the chemist?

Mad Old Cow

Yes PP at a chemist but i have a feeling it may be at Supermarkets but chemist for sure & you can get a white one if you like because the dark yellow one does stain clothes sometimes but to be honest i prefer the darker one & i just soak clothes before washing

Tiger Balm is good for pain.....I use the tiniest bit of the white and rub it gently on my temples when I have a headache.
You can buy it at Supermarkets in the Medicines section.
Must mention a GF who used to have Migraine clusters....until she went to a Dentist who noticed her jaw was out of alignment...apparently this can cause pain in various areas of the head.

I also suffer from migraines but they are triggered by stress not anything to do with my neck......a dark room is the only thing that helps them
I've recently been to the dentist and he said it all looked great, I have my wisdom teeth through (no pain or anything:blink:)

Divorce him!LMAO

You naughty girl :hehe:
Well I did say I'm willing to try anything, who knows a good divorce lawyer LMAO

OK PP that sounds like a pain that I get spasmodically and it is a pinched nerve and no medication will help.......... I get this every so often and just get hubby to massage and then have to stretch the neck to the opposite side of the pain and backwards and forwards and I do that for three days and t is all gone....... no pain killers at all !!!!!!!

Hope it resolves itself for you........

I used to get awful neck pain and had it treated by a physio who would massage and use theraputic ultrasound. I was also given this huge rubber band thing to help me do some specific stretching and muscle strengthening exercises. It was really helpful :)

Same for me....I'd recommend physio as well - you'll want to fix what ever is causing it and strengthen the muscles in that area.

I can recommend a TENs machine. I had one for 20 years and upgraded to the newest fabulous model early last year.

They are like having a live in remedial massage therapist.

The new one I got was at a womens expo - this is the website of the company http://www.drtens.net
The pack I got contained everything on the site for about $150 less than the website price all up - so maybe wait for an expo for the discounts ! The woman at the stall said they set up at travel expos, caravan and camping expo's and womens expo's.

I take 2000mg of Voltaren a day so I cant also use the gel as its doubling up the dosage and risking too much thinning of the blood.

Feeling better today. Just a long week of overtime every night and it involved lots of keying and not much moving. Not very OH&S friendly !!!!

I have a very high tolerance for codiene. During my years of teeth pain prior to having all my teeth removed - I was on 3 hourly panadiene forte for 7 months non stop. My liver loves me !

Drinking wise - well the best I can do is a photo of me at age 19 with Willy Nelson where he had to admit that I out drank him in a whiskey shot competition. I have no idea who kept count but we went shooter glass for shooter glass throughout the night and he passed out first! My proudest moment - LOL. These days a couple of glasses of white wine is fine by me. No need for outdrinking old rockers any more.

About the neck pain, just wanted to suggest that seeing a physio might be able to help? I have used physios a couple of times for various injuries, and have found them to be really good for that. Might be able to help with the neck pain...

P.S. I am a really cheap drunk - one drink and I'm woozy!! :D

I have a question.
Are you sure it's neck pain?
It's just that the pain you've described often has its source in the back.

It is neck pain as my neck has been shown to be inflamed
Of course the pain travels to my back, shoulders etc
