The other night in the chat room, I said that I always thought OH meant Old Husband! Every time I saw it, I'd read it as that.. and visualise wrinkly old bent over man with no teeth ..no way am I ever going to call Gra OH that sounds horrible. (besides he's younger than me)

So now I finally find out it stands for Other Half ..nope sorry, can't get Old Husband out of my head now LMAO

When I came across my first message board years ago, I noticed a few posters put LOL or L MAO at the end of their post... OMG, I thought that was their badge/hat, they must have special authority. :Hehe: Now, I think you'll agree that probably takes the cake, but what have you misinterpreted? Or now's your chance to ask what some abbreviations mean, and your question will pale in comparison to mine so you don't have to worry :P

ROFL@Pam - Old Husband!!! That's priceless LMAO (mental note not to refer to S as OH to Scarlett - he wouldn't appreciate being thought of as an old decrepit man!)

I often come across acronyms I don't know and I'll spend ages trying to figure out what they mean but I don't think I've had any that funny. Although the first time I read 'DH' I thought it meant something else entirely (not 'Dear' anything at all). I thought it was kind of rude for all these women to be referring to their partners in such derogatory terms.

I'd be mighty poxed off if Gra was calling me OW! (Old Wife) that's also why I thought it sounded terrible LMAO

I thought DH was something not so nice too when I first saw it LMAO

Don't think my hubby would like me using OH if it meant old husband either.

I had trouble with lots of them too, then one day i found a list of them and their meanings on the emailcash website- that helped

I post a fair bit on a parenting forum as well so a lot of those acronyms are about TTC (trying to conceive) - one in particular, HPT = Home Pregnancy Test. At work last year, some new committees/teams were set up, and the acronym for whatever they were called (I STILL can't remember) was HPT. Every time I read it or we talked about it all year, I'd snigger to myself.

Naomi (who feels like an OW today!)

Ladies,

I cannot thankyou enough, I am so new to all this and I really thought I was losing my mind, sitting reading things and thinking what the hell do all these abbreviations mean...god I really am dumb, I guess as I don't have a husband I don't need to refer to DH, but so many I just guessed and moved on and thought I wonder what she is refering too, well now I feel that that gaps have been filled in. Thankyou. I will now be able to understand what you are discussing and not real so stupid.:waves:

It took me awhile as well. I had a few uni friends that used them all the time and I just ended up asking. Although I usually see a new/different one every week so it is still a guessing game for some of them....:Hehe:
