I am fairly sure that they were talking about Toowoomba. Can someone let me know if I'm wrong though.
They are going to blend filtrated sewage water into their drinking water!!!!!
Eeeewwwww!
I worked for a construction company that dealt with sewage and filtration and the engineers said that they wouldn't be drinking it because of the chemicals that it takes to purify it.
I still wouldn't be drinking it, ugh, just the thought! Why not just use it for something else.
I do know what process the sewage has to go through to be purified enough to use for irrigation.

We have sewage plants here to process the water before it hits the ocean.. Actually in Santa Monica, they have one that turns it to drinking water? I think the people have been fine so far, let me see if I can find an article
EPA (http://www.epa.gov/region09/annualreport/99/water.html)
This was all I could find.. I cant believe how much money goes into this. If only people were more minded with their waste. they should have to live in it and that would teach them

Well Bev..if they don't want to drink it they always have the option to install a water tank (and the council subsidises this...$500)
Yes it was Toowoomba...I am sure there will be very strict controls on it and would probably be no worse for you than all the chemicals that are in town water now that most people consume every day.
If I still lived in Toowoomba I would be more than happy to use it for washing and bathing and then use tank water for drinking and cooking.
People are going to have to make sacrifices soon..they don't want dams, they don't want recycled water....it's going to have to stop somewhere or we wont have any water at all..simple as that!

I don't see why the councils don't have water use restricted. Brisbane does. When I moved to here about 14 years ago from Lismore NSW, I found out that we could only use a water sprinkler on certain days of the week and between certain hours.
We have water restrictions on here now. I really try not to over use water.
I still couldn't drink it. I would be sick at the thought. Then again I've seen a Sewage Treatment Works in real life! I do believe that it can be re-used in some areas but not going into our bodies. Yuck!

I'm with Patricia on this one. People don't want dams built but something has to change/happen cause QLD and especially Brisbane and that are are getting lots more houses which means lots more people so they need water for those too. And I guess if I had to I'd use the filtered water for washing and showers, then use tank water for cooking and drinking.

I think the councils themselves need to watch the water they waste. When they water their gardens and things you always see tons of water running into the gutters. I hate it.
