Has anyone ever roasted swedes or turnips?

I saw Delia Smith do it on a cooking show on the weekend so I have thrown a few in with the leg of lamb...I hope they are nice....also having roasted parsnips and onions and carrots along with the potatoes and sweet potatoes.

Yes I have. They are quite nice. I always do my onions and carrots that way and it's the only way I will eat pumpkin and sweet potatoes.

Hope you like them. Let us know won't you.

Ok, is swede the one that looks like anaemic carrot or the one that's more of a turnip shape?

I've had the carrot one (I think) at MILs, I do like them but it just doesn't occur to me to buy them unless I;m making soup.

I love roast veges and I like to have the onions roasted with the other veges for the flavour but I don't eat the onion. I love potato, pumpkin, sweet potato, carrot ... all roasted. So yummy.

The white carrot looking one is parsnip..and the rounder one is swede or turnip.

Oh how embarassing, you actually said turnip in your OP ... I really should learn to read properly. Man, I need to take cooking lessons from you, your roast sounds way more exciting than ours!

to roast an onion without it falling apart stick a couple of toothpicks through it. Also when roasting your pumpkin sprinkle the top with brown sugar, it carmelises on the top & is sooooooo yummo

Tina - I might try that. Might get me to eat more pumpkin. I only like butternut pumpkins anyway.

Ok, here is an example about pumpkins again.. As common as potatoes.I love pumpkin and would prpably eat it more if it were available to us.

I love roasted bellpeppers and Zucchini..and portabello mushrooms. I also like to put half tomatoes and sprinlke parmesan cheese on top and a little EVOO and grill them.
