It seems as if all the toys that are discussed on here are techno-toys; they're expensive, they're fun, they're cool, but they don't actually put any more minutes into your day or make your life that much easier.
Or am I wrong? What's a toy that actually makes a positive difference in the way you live? What's more useful than fun?

this computor has brought wonderful friends into my life and restore my faith in friendships. It is a gadget because it has buttons for me to push

I love the auto can opener.
And you cannot knock the Roomba, that is the best thing ever.
And I love my food processor, and garlic press. No more peeling garlic.
Pocket translator is another good one. And a laser pointer.
And the shake flashlight, so u never have to put batteries in it.
I think there are some useful ones..
Again.. Roomba.. I really need that soon.

What's a roomba Gina?
The internet is not a gadget but it sure as goodness has made life quicker and easier. When I was working a big part of my job was research and being able to do that online was vastly easier than sludging through books and paper versions of journals etc. And google - it rocks, it has an answer to nearly everything.
Blackberry - of course it puts extra time in your day. Now instead of having to be in the office to reply to emails etc, can do it anywhere. It means you can utilise travel time (assuming you PT it, not drive :Hehe: ) to do all the email drudgery that once took half the morning in the office. Oh and you can google on it too!
Why can't gadgets be fun and useful?

Naomi!!!!!!!
You girls are going to die, when you hear this one!
I know how you "Aussies" like to hang your laundry up, so you might like vaccuming and sweeping too.
But I don't, I am lazy...lol
The Roomba does it for you, when you are out, or asleep or watching Tv ot while you are on the computer. You never have to hold a broom or vaccume again!
And it was on Oprah's fav things!

scuse me? Are you talking to me?? LMAO I only hang my washing up because we don't have a dryer, and if I don't do it it won;t get done (at least until Hugo is big enough to reach the clothes line).
And no. I don't like vacuuming (even with the dyson) or sweeping. Or pretty much anything like it.
LMAO

Hey is that a Godfather quote? I luv the Godfather!
No Naomi, not specifically you.LMAO But the posts I have read about hanging clothes have been because they prefer it to the dryer.
Roomba Rocks!

Gina - You are correct of course. I didn't know the name but I saw it on Oprah. (Go Oprah) I want to go to America and get all Oprah's favourite things. :crying:
The internet is wonderful if you call it a 'gadget'.
Automatic Washing Machines. No such thing when I was young.
The Clothes Dryer - great time saver.
Electric Jugs - yeah, didn't have them when I was young either.
Remote Controls for the TV. DVDs, CDs, VCRs. God I could go on forever!
Pop up toaster, Microwave, Electric Frypan - you guessed it! Not when I was growing up.
The garlic crusher, blender and Electric can opener. (although I was too lazy to get it out of the cupboard after a while so I got rid of it)
Hair dryer and straightener! Don't know what I'd do without them!! I would look like Shirley Temple.(well my hair anyway) - Note for young people. Google Shirley Temple. LMAO
Gina - what do you use a Laser Pointer for?? :brow:

Gina - what do you use a Laser Pointer for??
teasing the cats LMAO
(I'm kidding! I don't, besides my lazy sloths couldn't be assed chasing a laser pointer)

Oh that'd be cool. We use to turn the lights off and flick the torch over the walls to send our cats batty...they were so funny...

Teachers use them instead of a wooden stick or ruler. I used it with my kitty.
They are just fun to point at things really far way..lol
Or point it on someone, then they think a sniper is on them..
It may be illegal to point one at someone now IDR.
Leonie, the Roomba has sensors you can even put it on the top floor and it knows not to fall off the stairs and it is so thin it can go under the bed, dressers and sofas.

Wow, ladies, I didn't expect so many responses. Nice job!
It's funny because I wasn't thinking about the Roomba when I started this post but rather the Scooba, which is like the Roomba's cousin. It's basically the same thing except it replaces the mop and the scrub brush, and cleans your tile or hardwood floors.
I can also think of a gadget that replaces my ex-boyfriend, but I think that belongs in another forum.

gina I want a roomba. I know they sell them here in Aus as I saw an ad on tv for them recently but have no idea how much they are. Will have to look into it. Are they good at picking up pet hair? How much suction do they have?
that scooba thing looks really cool to. I am so lazy when it comes to housework I want one of each now lol.

Gina - more people should watch Oprah I think.
If I had a Roomba I think my dogs would be chasing it around. That would be funny. Wonderful idea though. Anything to help with housework.

Beverley,
If everyone watched Oprah, this world would be a better place.
I am not sure about the suction, Leonie. I think they are about $200 US
aimistrue
12-06-2006, 01:43 PM
Yeah, they go for around $200, but considering the cost of vacuums today it's actually one of the cheaper ones. And if you're really worried about the suction you can run it so often that you won't *need* a lot of suction. Same goes for the Scooba.
