I use to love them with vinegar, then gravy. Can't have either now. Just plain salt.
Have you tried them dipped in Seafood Sauce. Yum.

I usually make my own. Big fat juicy chips.

nice work thanks for that naomi. How come we cannot do it?

I have so many potatoes in the cupboard I might just cut some up and cook them as chips and make yummy gravy to go with them. mmmmm :d: :d:

It varies depends on the chips, like ones from the corner shop and the frozen ones gravy :d: which is the one I voted on. Maccas fries I like them plain or with tomato sauce and KFC chips I have tomoato sauce or mayo. Oh and I have normal salt on them. At one of shopping centre's they have a seafood place, Skippers Catch and my cousins half sister works there, if she serves me she drowns them in gravy for me :d: :d: and gives me heaps more then she's suposed too :D :D :D

I am like Angie, it totally depends on the fries.
I like Ranch, Ketchup, BBQ, sometimes Ketchup and mustard.

i dont like mayo either, I really try to avoid it, especially after knowing how it is made. I am just not big on eggs..

I am not big on salt either..I dont salt food.

I have tried fries and vinegar.. pretty good.. but they have to be steak fries,

Anyone eat curly fries?

That's a hard one... I love tomato sauce but then again gravy is delicious and I do like vinegar as well as chicken salt (obviously not all at once).

From a young age until about 11 years old we had hot chips every Sunday night (it was treat night) and we'd make "Chip Sandwiches" and the butter would melt on the bread when the hot chips were squished in between... YUM!!! :d:

You definitely can't get the old style chips here in Hong Kong... only the McChuck's French Fries :eww:

I also love sweet chilli sauce and sour cream with the big fat chips :d:

That was a hard one to answer the poll. I like chicken salt, and bbq sauce. Or chicken salt and a bit of vinegar occassionally.

I used to love the chip and gravy rolls from henny penny. They were so yummy.

does anyone know the best way to cook home made hot chips? I don't have a deep fryer. I made some last night and just cooked them on a tray in the oven but there just wasn't something quite right. I cannot place it. Hope someone has some suggestions.

Naomi
14-06-2006, 09:32 PM
You could try putting oil in a saucepan, deep enough to cover the chips, then heat it to a high temperature before putting the chips in. It's essentially the same as a deep fryer. We sometimes did that, now we buy the frozen ready made ones to cook in the oven, they're healthier but not as yummy :(

if you do chips in oil leave them with paper towel under and ablove them(before cooking)to absorb the moisture as that makes them soggy instead of crunchy

Sorrel
18-06-2006, 02:49 AM
well, I voted for gravy.....

but, salt and vinegar or mayo is also equally acceptable :)

can someone please explain Chicken Salt?

Naomi
18-06-2006, 04:34 PM
It's kind of chicken flavoured seasoning ... I guess it's like the chicken flavoured crisps, or powdered chicken stock. It was a bit of a shock when we ordered chicken salt on hot chips in London one time and the guy (who was australian) told us "nah, that's an Australian thing, we don't have it over here". Jeepers, I can't imagine not having the chicken salt option for chips. That's just not right.

Sorrel
