Ok I really dont watch sports that often.. only the Olympics really and somemovies with sports..

So I am watching the USA play Ghana in soccer and it really looks to be like the Ghana guys just fall on their own. I mean the USA barely touches them and the fall and tumble so they get to have a free kick.

I think it is very unfair. The USA has been knocked/touched by them and they dont fall, they hold their own and keep on their feet.

Who are these referrees anyway? Like what country are they from? How do they get picked?

:dk: It seems to happen all the time, you work the rules to your advantage some coaches use this to win games. Some of them should get academy awards :Hehe:

I think there was a similar issue in the Aus/Brazil game last week - not re: the falling over, but that Brazil got 20+ free kicks and Aus got very few ... then Kewell got nasty with the ref about it after the game

Sorry, don't know about the refs but I'm assuming as it's the world cup, they come from all over the world. Maybe all the coutries that don't get into the finals, get to submit a ref? :Hehe: No, I'm assuming that the refs have to be pretty good to be selected but still ... I guess they can't see everything :dk:

Gina some teams are so good at the falling over part, I watched all the Central Coast Mariners home games last year ( this is my A League team in the top soccer comp in Aust) and I've only been invovled with soccer for the last couple of years, and I was so shocked at how they just fall over- and they all do it and I would have to say that Dwight Yorke from Sydney FC would have to be one of the best in the world at it, I can't understand why they aren't penalised for it.
Its certainly not good for our kids to start copying their heroes.

edit; the refs are from all over the world and they have to reach a certain accreditation to be able to do games at this level.

The Harry Kewell incident was very interesting- he only got off coz the ref said he couldn't remember what Harry had said to him. WTF more like a case of the guilts me thinks

Thanks Mel, I didn't actually see the Aus/Brazil game so I wasn't sure why or how it happened, I only heard about it afterwards. COnsidering everyone else seemed to know what Harry had said to the ref, maybe you're right about that!

I heard a quote about soccer the other day - not sure who said it but its soooo true.

"Soccer is the one sport where often the better team loses"

Naomi I was very upset about the reffing in the AUS V BRAZ game too, it was really bad.

I went to the Sydney FC/ CC Mariners Grand Final in feb and after the game even the Sydney supporters were saying that we deserved to win.( We played a lot better were just unlucky):D
