They say black is slimming!

Avoid horizontal stripes! Avoid any stripes, IMO!! :)

What part is the weight sitting at.. hips? tummy? Evenly over your body? With the hips, try a long jacket.

Are you tall or on the shorter side? My 8 year old girl is tall (about the hieght of an 11year old) and wears ladies size 12 (no lie). I find with her anything with elastic waist sticks out and she looks fatter, I have found track pants and bike pants look really good with a longest tshirt.

it seems so unfair that larger clothes and maternity ones make you look like a tent.

Definately stay away from horizontal stripes and whites as they make you look bigger. Black and other dark colours work. I have a cosmo mag that has an article which tells you how to dress for your shape and size.

Check out this site it may be able to give you some pointers http://www.dressmenow.com

avoid cheap clingy fabrics such as nylons. Don't always go for black. Wear wider leg pants that are balanced with your hips as they give an illusion of length-especially a bootleg length with shoes that are a bit pointy with a heel.
Buy things that fit properly rather than being oversized (makes you look bigger) or too small (makes you look lumpy). Things with small bits of detail such as the crossover tops can often be flattering but avoid fussy patterns or really busy clothing.
A-line skirts are good at hiding the hips. If you are busty wear vneck tops-nothing highnecked as it makes you look more topheavy.

I would love to have someone take me into the shops to help me find the right clothes, like that show "What Not To Wear". I reckon it would be great if the shops set out their clothes with little signs that said reduce hips, bums, bust. Look bigger, thinner, taller that sort of thing I think that would be great. I went into Target the other day and they have like three mirrors in their changing rooms so you can see yourself at every angle. Oh MY God needless to say I didn't buy anything LMAO LMAO LMAO

I hate the fitting rooms where you have to actualy come out to look in the mirror cuz there isn't one in each fitting room. But I would also love for someone to take me shopping on a what not to wear thingy too. Great way to get a heap of free clothes.

What are your favourite features? I think the most important thing when it comes to dressing is to focus on the parts that you LOVE about yourself, and not the parts you don't.

I used to be a size 12 and found the weight sat around my tummy and back, while my legs stayed pretty skinny. So I'd focus on showing my legs - I'd wear skirts or jeans that hugged, and wear something looser on my top half to kinda balance it out.. Its all about illusion ;)

I agree, V neck tops are flattering, and if you're saying hips / upper legs - then maybe go for A line skirts.. heels too are a great weapon in adding a tiny bit of height and giving great shape to legs.

If you accessorise well - a nice belt, bag or jewellery - you'll also take more attention away from unwanted areas... Some of the best dressed girls I know are size 14 and they always get compliments!

We never look as bad as we think.. I find it hard to look in the mirror and focus on the good parts - don't we all?

If you're between sizes, try to find clothes that are cut "on the bias". This is when the grain runs diagonally. They drape better, apparently.

Most clothes available these days are poorly made, and well overpriced. They only seem to look good on sticks.

I find that as i have gotten older, i shop alot smarter than i did when i was a few years younger *cringe*. Best advice i can give - Dont buy on impulse! If i try something on and i instantly feel good and look good, i'll buy it. Buy what suits you and what you feel comfy in, not just cause its in fashion.

Black/gold/browns is always a good option and never, i repeat NEVER, wear hipster jeans/pants unless you are a stick insect or you like the plumbers crack and or muffin top look LMAO

Actually i seen a skinny young girl today at the supermarket with hipsters on and a crop top and her butt crack was hanging out when she was standing up straight, god im glad i didnt see her bend over lol
