The laws aren't strict enough. I'm having some real issues with some of ours right now. But enough on that. What that poor little girl went through. When that animal ends up in prison, he will be taken care of.

Nick and I were VERY shocked to hear it on the news this morning. We get the live ABC Sydney news and when they said that an 8 year old was killed in a toilet in a WA shopping centre, we looked at each other in shock.
They didn't say that she had been raped but we were if there was more to the story.
It's soooo sooooo sad!!! That's poor little girl. Now he should have his private parts chopped off without any pain killers!!!

Nicole I agree with you about the private parts but first he should be raped.
He should feel everything that little girl went through.

Yes, you're right!!!
There are two things in this world that really, really upsets me and that is abuse to children and animals. Both cannot defend themselves and are helpless in many situations and both are relying on adults to support, love and protect them - not abuse them.

I can't imagine anything worse, as a mum, than living that nightmare, constantly tortured by the thought that your beloved child's last minutes were gruesome and horrifying, and you couldn't help them. Utterly soul destroying.
There is no punishment bad enough for the bastard who did it. I hope he gets unofficial retribution in gaol x( I hope he experiences even an iota of the terror that poor little girl had to go through. It makes me sick and angry and so sad to hear about these things :( It makes you wonder what kind of world we're living in sometimes.

He will suffer very badly in jail. Especially if he goes to a maximum security jail, they hate child rapists and all things to do with kids. My ex is in jail for assault and attempted rape on a child, which he done before I met him and I never knew about til he went to jail earlier this year, and he's had avery rough time. Some friends know some other people in the same jail. They dont get away with anything in there

words just don't describe how I feel about this low life who did this to such an innocent child
you also have to wonder about the the mother of this man, how would she feel, how would you deal with that?
how can you have sex with an 8 year old? some people don't deserve to be able to go on living and this guy is one of them, and the fact that he has done it before and got off, just shows how our justice system doesn't work...
after visiting Alcatraz while in San Fran and seeing how those prisioners lived, and the size of the cells, this guy needs to be sent there and to live the remander of his days there, then he might suffer, it was a terrible place...but really why does he get to still live?
And to think that it was her 14 year old brother that found her naked body in the toilet. How on earth do you recover from something like that?
If I ever got my hands on that low life gutter scum who did that to the poor little girl he would be wishing they had sent him to jail!! It makes my blood boil. As I said to my hubby lastnight thats why I dont let my kids go to public toilets by themselves! And as much as my 7yr old son hates it I make him come to the ladies if only I have the kids in town. They need to make more family/unisex toilets available as DH pointed out if he's in town with the kids he cant make DD (9) go to the mens & he cant take her to the ladies what do you do?

yes I can't understand how kids that young just go off and seem to have no-one waiting for them...but she was with her brother and uncle I guess...
and the amount of times I have seen little girls in public toilets and then come out to the sink and wash there hands and no sight of there mums or dads or even sister or some adult that knows them...it does make you think? and then the go out the door and walk down some long corridor and back out into the shopping centre...it only takes a couple of seconds doesn't it...

That poor girl, how can someone do something like that. I really don't get how people can be rapists and murderers. Its so barbaric and wrong.

Its shocking! I was also thinking of that poor 14 yr old boy who found her, I just hope the family gets all the help and support they need right now!
Also i hope the people invovled in reporting this story have a bit more compassion and word their words a bit more carefully, i dont know who he was (cop etc) but last night i the news i was watching a man was explaining to reporters what had happened when he said saomething along the lines of they 14 yr old brother found her naked dead body.......something like that but it was the way he said dead body sounded extreamly insensitive to me. I staight away thought OMG i hope the family didnt hear him speak like that!
The rock spider will get his day in jail .....if not before hand.
Moslty my thoughts are with the family.

I am lost for words - it makes me sick to to stomach.
They need to put him in the general population area of jail when they finally get him in there - he won't last there and I hope he suffers 1000 time more than what he put that beautiful little girl through.
It is beyond words how I feel. That poor darling little girl. I have tears in my eyes as I write this. I hope that piece of scum suffers every minute of every day of his life. I hope someone slits his throat in jail and lets him slowly bleed to death, and chop off his other parts for good measure.
I have just heard on the news that the creep, is one of those boys who murdered little James Bulger (sp) in England some years ago. I think he was abducted from a shopping centre and murdered. If that is true how could they let the creep into this country. I do remember when those boys were released in England there was talk that one was coming here. It will be interesting if that is the case. It is all beyond belief.

they said on the news today he wasn't one of the guys that killed the little fella in the UK. I found this article about the chain letter. http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/bulger.html
The urban myth that he was one of the Bulger killers started the same night as the actual muder. Amazing how fast untruths can be spread in this day and age of the WWW.
Fact is neither Australia or Canada wanted to accept those two when they were released as neither country allows immigrants with police records. Both live in the UK with new identities.
Something that hasnt been mentioned in this thread - it was just a mere TEN MINUTES between little Sophia leaving her bother and uncle to go to the loo and her brother finding her body. TEN MINUTES was all it took to rape a child, break two of her limbs and strangle her. JUST TEN MINUTES.
I know that local councils go on about it only taking seconds for a child to drown in an unattended swimming pool - but where are we in this day and age when a child cannot even go to the loo and be out of sight for TEN MINUTES safely.
I agree that shopping centre and places like cinemas and anywhere that kids and parents would attend - should have family friendly toilet facilities where a father can safely take his daughter or a mother can take her son. So these children do not have to venture into them alone. As an adult I dont feel safe in public toilets - how can we expect a child to ?
This guy is scum and had been under police survelience for some time due to reports from staff at the shopping centre. Thats why he was arrested so fast.
I hope he lives for about 3 days in prison. One of my coworkers is in jail for a similar thing (the little kidnapped boy last year who was subjected to awful things for several weeks). It sickens me to think I use to talk to this person each day and even lunched with him. He is being protected in jail due to prisoners dislike for child rapists/killers. I say - stop protecting him. Why should the criminal be afforded more protection than the children ?

I agree they are not going to tell us they allow scum into this country. The goverment makes it's own rules.

Do you know that there are family friendly toilets? Just thought about it, the babies rooms have big an little toilets, and mums and dads can go in them. We use them all the time as my 11 year son is scared of public toilets, although there are times I make him go into the gents (like when it is busy and he is busting) just thought I would mention that.

not in all places I dont think there are the family friendly parenting rooms etc.
I thought about it, and if everywhere they had toilets where parents could go in with their kids of any age without a baby in tow, how easy would it be for security cameras to just think that its a bloke with his daughter/niece/granddaughter? (same goes for a female with a male)

We're lucky that most of our local shopping centres do have parents rooms. Since I only have Hugo and he's still smallish, I always use the parents rooms and take him in with me - they have large toilet cubicles that fit a pram inside.
The thing is, she was eight - still a child but getting to the age when I imagine you would start to feel it was ok to let her go to the toilet on her own ... her poor, poor uncle and brother, they will be weighed down with the guilt of that for the rest of their lives.
The guy is scum. I don't care who he is or where he is from, IMO if he was such a risk as to require surveillance before now then he shouldn't have been roaming the shopping centre like a predator. I also believe that paedophiles are notoriously bad re-offender risks and once they've been convicted once they should never be released. Disgusting animals aren't worthy of the freedom they deny their victims.

The parenting room at one of our shopping centre's doesnt have a toilet big enough to take the pram in you have to just leave it out near the door. I hardly ever go to the toilet when I'm alone unless I'm really busting. Mostly I just wait til I get home.
Also Naomi, this is a little :ots: sorry but I saw on the news the other night there is an australian dude geting realeased from a thai prison and he's planning to come back to Oz, he's a convicted paedophile

Well thats ridiculous ! A mother has to go in to the loo and leave the pram outside ? Unbelievable. I hope you have complained.
And yep I saw that guy that was released on the news the other night - a seriously scarey looking piece of work he was. I hope he is put straight back in jail as soon as he lands at the airport.

Angie, I also saw it on the news and totally agree with Kjoy's comment. I actually had him in mind when I replied before. I was so angry when I saw it on the news. Before I had a child I used to think it was bad in an abstract kind of way but now I look at my small boy and I would do ANYTHING to protect him, and to think there are people out there who would hurt children like him without a second thought really burns me up.

i use the disabled toilets if i have my little kids and a trolley and the parents room is either full or busy .. i will not let them out of my site to go to the loo. my 10yo girl and my 12yo boy are allowed to go to the loo on their own, but i stand outside the door, they get get timed and i WILL start calling thru the door if i think they're taking their time. i also watch every man like a hawk when they go in the mens room, i dont care how they feel about that, they'd feel a whole lot worse if they touched my boy and i got to them!

Hubby read on the net that these toilets were listed on a gay web site as a good meeting spot. Has since been taken of by orders of police. Just unbelievable that peolpe can be so irresponsible when posting stuff.

No Jo. The last I heard the piece of scum was in a Psychiatric hospital. He should be in Prison so the other prisoners could get to him. He will most probably be put in protective custody. The system here is a joke.
The dear little girls funeral was last week. She didn't get a second chance like that piece of Shit most probably will. I do hope her family find some comfort knowing many people care. It is just so very sad.

I was so sad to hear about the 8 year old ... As I have a little girl who is 8 and just to think about it made me cry..... I made my Lucie watch the news about it and explained to her why we insist that we take her to public toilets even though she tells us that she is a big girl now, she understands that sometimes mum and dad might be right in trying to protect them
