I don't often get sick, or so I thought. I realise though that I am one of the last to fall. Every year in the past few years I am surrounded by sick people on public transport, in lifts, and sick people at work sniffling and coughing and I am fine - then I get sick after everyone else has. Anyone know why that is?
I got sick two Friday's ago. Then took last Thursday off, boss not happy so on Friday, though I was woozy and struggling, stupidly I got myself to work, only to not be able to do much and mixed stuff up that I tried to do.
The thing is I have spent the long weekend in bed and today off work. Finally got antibiotics and started them today. I have to get to work tomorrow and I am on call for the next two night - urgh! I know its not cancer or anything serious, and I know I am lucky in life, but I am just fluey, and I feel so weak and crappy.... and like complaining (just a little LOL). Anyone else going through this? Any tips on getting through it? I used betadine gargle mix to stop the sore throat and I have cough mixture for the night time coughs I get.

Yuk to being sick Maggie. I hope you pick up soon.
I have been very lucky as I rarely get sick with the flu.
Are you working as well?

All you can do Maggie is bed rest and lots of liquids.
Surely your Boss will realise this.

I'll be fine. I must be at he tail end of it now surely. My boss is a sh**. Nothing I do is good enough or fast enough, he never says thank you. I know I am doing a good job, but for some reason its not enough for him. But instead of complaining about it, I am looking for a new job. Since I started antibiotics today I am hoping to be getting better very soon.
Hope the antibiotics kick in soon Maggie:hug: the thing is with the flu any doc will tell you bed rest and heaps of fluids

I don't normally get the flu but had it last year and so far this year had two days of the body aches they were so cruel I blame it on the GK's with there sniffles and hugging me
Hope you feel on top of this soon Maggie, and good luck finding a better job

One of the other school mums was sick for probably two months and ended up having two different courses of antibiotics to knock it on the head. I hope you're better quicker than that! There does seem to be a lot of it around at the moment, though. You'd think the boss would be thankful you weren't in at work to share it with him and everyone else ... nothing worse than sick people coming in and sharing it around.

you are crazy then, stuff the boss...you have all those hours owing...use them..thats what there for ...if you are sick there is not a thing he can do about it....
especially with medical certificate
so glad I have supportive work colleagues...who actually rang me and was saddened to hear how sick I am and worried about me...they took me off work till Monday :)

I have been sick with a sinus cold for a little over a week. No sore throat just a really full nose and phlegm chest.
I don’t normally get sick and usually take cold and flu tablets if i feel the sniffles starting.
This year it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had 3 days off work and worst of all is that I cant take anything for it, not even cough medicine to break up the phlegm because it all as either alcohol, codine, ibuprofen etc in it and I cant take it with bubs. Also because of bub I cant cough unless sitting on the loo as I rick wetting my pants. (the many joys of motherhood – they don’t tell you all these bits)
I have found a nice steamy shower is good to help bring up the crap on your chest and vicks chest rub helps a bit too.
I understand how hard it is to be sick in a workplace where you cant take a sick day its a real PITA. Good luck and feel better soon.

If we take sick time off we get treated terribly afterwards. A few weeks ago i had to go home cause i had bad gastro, and it was only 4 hrs before knock-off time. When i asked to go home, the boss said "No, we have no staff, and we cant replace you". so i battled on for an hour, then walked up to him and said "I'm sorry, i cant go on, ive had an accident". After that, for about a week i was treated like dirt and he would'nt even talk to me. Our boss is a pig and non aproachable.

 I dont know your circumstances...sorry to hear you work in such an uncaring environment  can you not go to anyone about the way you are treated or is he the only Boss....sounds like a real arrogant jerk
fancy treating you like that ...I have worked at other places where they didnt appreciate you having time off:yes: its not good.
But geez they should be more understandable ...I mean they only have to lok at the hours in sick leave you have to know you dont just have time off for the sake of it:yes: I hope you can find a solution:yes:

Good Luck.
The cold thats going around is a bad one and hard to shake. Take the time off regardless of if you have permission. By law an employer cant say no or go against a medical certificate and they cant question why you were at a doctors either. They dont have a medical degree and its an offence that would give you grounds to sue them.
