My hubby and my Mum are on it. Hubby reckons it's made a great difference but Mum says not for her, maybe she's too far gone. Most people I know that are on it say it takes about 3 months before you notice a difference.

I have tried every one with all sorts of combinations......for several years and nothing worked.
I now take massive doses of Fish oil tablets (4x1000mg morning and again at night) and that seems to have some effect.

It's like everything Melinda.....what works for some won't for others.
Now that you've spent the money, take them but it will be a good month before you notice any effect.
Melinda

What Gluosamine is for is to assist damaged cartilege to regain strength and repair itself. I have osteoarthritis and have used it for many years now, and the threatened hip replacement has not happened, touch wood. I used to get tiny fractures in the cartilege, and suffered from extreme night pain, but that has been reduced to a minimum. If you don't have joint problems or osteo, there is no real reason to take Glucosamine, and you won't notice much effect. Another important factor in joint health is to keep your weight down.

 DH and I were taking them along with fish oil ..found them quite good  but a GP said you need to have take a min of 1500mg dose...well that is what he said
DH havent taken them for months as we have been taking cinnamon/honey instead and it works :D and lot cheaper:yes:

Well put!! I was going to add that its not something you take as a "preventative" - thats what Calcium and Zinc are for. My mum and my former neighbour have savage arthritis (the neighbour since she was a kid, mum more from years of gardening) - both started taking high dose Glucosamine and Shark Cartilidge (the home made South Australian brand as he only uses sharks that are accidently caught in fishing nets - he doesnt source purpose caught ones) about 18 years ago and its made a massive difference to them - So much so that if their delivery is late and they have to go a week without the pills - the joints really ache up again.

I think the issue is that people have been taking Glucosamine for the wrong reasons, and not understanding its purpose. If you have genuine osteoarthritis, there is little else that has any useful application. Fish oil is good for other types of arthritis, also has been effective, for me, by seemingly eliminating my asthma - can't say for sure it made it disappear as I have no way of proving it but since I have taken fish oil I have not needed asthma medication - that's in the last ten years. Not sure about the cinnamon and honey thing - the jury is out on that one and there is no actual medical evidence that it has any effect. Manuka honey is good for the digestive system and can be used to treat wound infection. Cinnamon is rumoured to have certain health benefits but nothing definitely proven.

Hubby likes the herbal teas so that is not too much of a stretch drinking it..in my research they also so said you can mix the cinnamon and honey to a paste and have it on bread or toast..in my research which covered a lot of different sources including a government one said it goes back hundreds of years you can use it for other ailments as well you just change how much cinnamon or honey you use.
sandydee
08-07-2010, 05:52 PM
 said the same on the paperwork I have about it...on toast etc .I also used Cinnamon teabags which I bought from Woolworths  but cant seem to get no more...but will keep looking.
We have 2 cups a day....morning and night:yes:
Melinda
08-07-2010, 07:48 PM
sandy do you just mix the cinnamon and honey with hot water ....?
redrobyn
08-07-2010, 07:56 PM
Add a small teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup add hot or warm water mix in two teaspoons of honey have twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening..I just had mine on a piece of multigrain bread mixed in a paste..I came across a web site that sells organic cinnamon in bigger size bags it's in Melbourne didn't make a note of it prices weren't cheap but not overly expensive might try and look it up again.
You can use it for different ailments you just vary the ratio of the ingredients my d.d's best friends mother is a naturopath might ask her what she thinks of it.

i had to make a comment as well ,i take the glucosamine and it does take a while for it to kick in , different time for different people but i also take fish oil , i have the liquid as it is a higher dose, it works for me i have had no pain now for well over 12 months, before i used them i could not stand the pain in winter or before rain. i take 2 capsules a day and i use glucosamine 1000 in a large tub 200 tablets Blakemores and it is around $30.00, pain killers are just as expensive and not so good for you.

Hi Melinda..
Did you see this Oz health arthritis cream on Today Tonight.. This cream has the glucosamine in it as well and by all accounts pain relief is instant. So while the tabs take about six to eight weeks to kick in. I will also try the creme to start.
